Fibre Less in Parts of Quesada

Fibre Less in Parts of Quesada

Postby LifeOfBrian » Fri Jul 13, 2018 7:19 pm

About time the residents of certain parts Quesada be heard. Firstly, just checked oh yeah its 2018. Fibre Optic all around us but with speeds from 100 to 300 Mbps. We get 10 Mbps as Movistar the national provider could only stretch to 5 Mbps. Now to my knowledge it was the GPO now called BT that originally installed and assisted the then known Spanish landline carrier Telefonica in installing a national network provider. But, at the top of Quesada close by Harry’s Bar we have more masts, transponders, panels than we need. But, heyho they have probably made their Microwave redundant as outside of their great bar the airwaves must be buzzing. Now, all around us Dona Pepa and Quesada are new Urbs being developed with a 2018 infrastructure being developed we could not even get gas as some idiot decided to resurface the streets that to be honest were well overdue since the 60’s. We did not have potholes we had craters. So the PSOE and co decided do not allow the gas to dig up the new surfaces. Its called the right hand never ever, ever talks to the left hand thats if there is another hand. So, they cannot lay fibre optic cable. So, what about a outcry to our stuck in the 60’s council to try and bring the upper part of Quesada C/Costa Azul and surrounding resident dwellings into the Millenium at least. So do we want gas bottles, candles and not far off dial up forever if we say and do nothing. Not going to bother with one of our local so called councillors that has an office in Quesada Town Hall that specializes in up and coming events at the cave houses etc as he took 6 months to get an open sewer covered. Grrrrrrhhhhhh.

We live in the La Fiesta plaza area and have been waiting for fibre optic lines to be installed for years! I too am stuck with Movistar who have absolutely no interest in investing in infrastructure around this area and it seems no one else is either. It would be really good to be at least informed of a planning date when we could look forward to possibly having a 21st century system installed, but I suppose that’s much to much to ask. Until then I suppose I’ll have to continue watching Netflix in 480 definition and marvel at the thought of one day seeing it in 720p!

I sometimes wonder why these people moved to Spain. I moved for a different lifestyle. I now enjoy the Spanish way of life and whatever the speed of the internet is not my number one priority. I knew Spain was behind the times when i took the decision to move her 18 years ago. I absolutely love it and if you want 100 mgbs then you are not going to get it here. Enjoy Spain even with it's limitations.

:text-goodpost:
I say that because it’s true. We too are in the same boat and it’s so frustrating that we are still having to use VOIP for our phone, and an internet with a max speed of 10 mps . Part of our road has still not been adopted by the local council ( and we’ve been here 18 yrs too ) so were not even offered gas!!!! , but the council are happy to have our taxes!!!! Come on Rojales Council, listen to the people who pay your wages and let all of Quesada and the surrounding area enjoy the technology that’s available, and not just the “ chosen few”!

I live in Quesada in an area with no fibre optic. I paid Meganet €500 to have 50mg WiFi installed. It works fine for HD and internet, but not stable enough for my video conferencing work. They tell me my area is due to have fibre installed early next year. Sadly I can’t wait that long so am looking for another long term rental in an area with fibre.

The roads in spain are better than the UKs pothole ridden roads and pavements, and rightly so the council should,nt allow a newly surfaced road to be dug up, if only they did that in the uk ,bet you don't moan about the cheap car tax, council tax etc here in Spain, for better services needs more taxes, As for GPO/BT they were the biggest telecoms con going until they got competion,Many times have I seen recently if no underground ducting available for fibre optic they run it, the cables overhead or along buildings, prehaps some people don't want unsightly cables along there houses,is it not the cable companys who pay the biggest wedge to the local council get the contract,
