Fridge Freezer

Fridge Freezer

Postby Niktam » Sat Aug 18, 2018 6:10 pm

We have a fridge freezer. The freezer at the bottom keeps icing up inside under the bottom basket so we get a slab of ice that then leaks out onto the floor. We've reread the instructions and googled it and of course it could be a number of things mainly a blocked condensate evidently when it auto defrosts it collects water (somewhere) and then this evaporates off.
We have pulled the unit out from the wall taken off the cover plate at the rear bottom hovered the muck out(which wasn't that bad) The back of the unit is all sealed in (except for the panel detailed above) so not much else we could do!
The FF is in a tight cupboard space but not had any issues over the last 14 years! So put it back leaving the front bottom trim off to allow more air underneath and made sure there is a larger gap at the rear for air circulation. The door seals are in excellent order and it is not over full. Left the bottom basket out for a trial period as well.
My only query is when a fridge freezer auto defrosts where does the water evaporate from as there is no "tank" or recepitcle under neath that I can see?
We haven't had the door open more than normal or the room temperature any different? Any suggestions besides get a new one?

Thanks
Niktam

I had a similar problem with water coming from the fridge/freezer. It was the container which is situated at the back of the fridge, it was full. It's a container that catches the water when the fridge/freezer defrosts itself, normally it dries up as mine sits on the hot round thing/motor? But in this heat it produces more water so has to be checked now and again, plus by pulling the fridge out, you can get to clear up the loose peas and dust/dirt that accumulates underneath it!

Thanks but I can't find the container/evaporator as the rear of the unit is all sealed in and the motor panel at the bottom rear was removed but nothing found in there at all that looks like it holds water.
The water drips out from a slot internally at the bottom rear of the freezer compartment (so maybe the reservoir is higher up?) The water then pools on the bottom inside of the freezer rather than leaking onto the floor beneath the fridge freezer.

Notwithstanding the above it is looking OK at the moment since I gave it more room and hovered out the motor compartment. Not sure why it started leaking after all this time as nothing had changed!

Fridge freezers can be repaired. You should have a phone number for service on your documents.
Failing that, do an internet search for your product service.

Check your temperature settings on the freezer, if they are set too low, this causes the freezer to ice up which in turn can cause other problems.
