Yes thank you, though about that but these are waste ( sewage ) pipes. Because we are on a hill with the underbuild drain 10 foot below gound level the outflow from the three combined loos must be even lower than that. It would need something pretty sophisticated to hear water flowing down there.

In any case, it was only after the first blockage in 5 years and I was chasing this up for futute reference, maybe finding any inspection manholes that might be buried under the stone covered weed matting.

Just fingers crossed it doesn't happen again, plenty more "flushing" in future. Thanks for all comments on this.
