Except for if/when you are asked to produce it in UK.

For whatever reason we got ours back when we got our SIP cards but we'd made copies anyway, always have with important bits of paper, can't understand people not doing that simple thing.

Don’t they send out TWO copies of your S1 from UK, one to submit here in Spain and one to retain in case you need treatment in the UK? We both received two copies of our S1 and they only kept one when we applied for our SIP Cards.

Yes, my wife got two copies and only submitted one in Spain. We are long-standing permanent residents.

That would seem to be a post Brexit development as I don't recall receiving two copies when we got ours after moving here in 2016.

Memory can be a funny thing though!

I don't know either. Just reporting what happened to us. We've been resident since 2005, but my wife reached pension age after Brexit so has only recently changed her SIP to being S1-based, and in her own right, rather than being a dependent on mine. I have another 8 years to wait so I'll let you know then - if I remember!

We also moved here in 2016 Darro but didn’t become pensioners and get our S1 until 2019. So yes, receiving two copies could be a post Brexit change.
