Anyone know how2record programmes from a Torresat TV set up?

Hi
My neighbour has a Torresat set up for her TV but she would like to use a recording device. I would assume that all is needed is a separate hard drive recorder but I don't know if this would work with the Torresat TV set up.
I'm surprised that all paid for TV subscriptions in Spain would not include a recording set up with the systems as Sky & BT do in the UK but apparently they don't .
This seems pretty antiquated to me and I can't imagine not being able to pause, rewind and record live TV as we do in UK.
Are these companies taking advantage of the older Expats who may not expect this kind of thing as standard.
Can anyone let me know what she can do to get recording on Torresat system please?

Any ideas anyone? Will a normal hard drive recorder do the job or is it different with a 'paid for' TV subscription service?
Also shouldn't these type of TV services servces in Spain supply the recording facility automatically? I really couldn't imagine this happening in the UK as all subscription services advertise and supply record, pause and rewind live TV as part of the service.
Just seems strange to me???

Hi Jan,
Difference is, that in the UK, Sky / Virgin are the main language official services. The equivalent in Spain is Canal+ does this have a recording option - yes, but is Spanish!
So having UK TV in Spain, is different.
Torresat, is a very old system - 15-20 years old & whilst most peoples Torresat boxes are certainly not this old, the system / hardware has it's limitations.
You can use a Sky box / satellite receiver to record via satellite. A Sky box with a card will give you the pause / record and rewind live TV, but not without a Sky card / subscription.
It may be possible to add an external hard drive recorder to the existing TS box - though the issue may be one of compatibility, as this is not an official type service, not all hardware may be compatible, need to make sure will record ANY video output, many need official service to see TDT / Sat / Terrestrial / Cable. It may be a better ideal to contact TS and see if they have their own recording box option.
In reality Torresats service is very much out of date - not sure how many channels you get 50 ?? though as paying 20-25 per month, other more modern services do offer much better options - such as recording & catch up as well as over 10 times the channels for the same money. I've said this before - not sure how long TS will be in business as unsure why someone would pay for a service with so little content and facilities - when now you can get 10 x that for same money. Or put in a satellite dish for the free to air (you can get a box that records) and save yourself 20+ euros per month and pay no monthly subs for FTA TV.

Thank you. Very helpful..now I understand.
I will pass on this info.
I believe our friend has had this system a long time and may be reluctant to change as she changed from another system years ago when that went belly up.
I will definitely pass this on though.

Have a quick look at the box and see if it has a USB socket on it (probably on the back, but possibly hidden under a flap at the front).
If it does then plug a blank USB pen drive into it and see what happens. The box will propbably pop up a message to say that a USB devices has been mounted, or maybe that it needs to be formatted before use.
You won't be able to store much on a regular USB pend drive, but it should be enough to work-out if it's worth investing in an external drive.
Just be aware that any existing data on the USB device you plug-in may be lost/damaged, so go for a blank one.
Pete.

I'm not sure if that is possible with their service - as no mention elsewhere of option to record including their own website and FAQ / use section.
