Improvements to Avda Las Naciones

Improvements to Avda Las Naciones

Postby marcliff » Mon Mar 11, 2019 9:38 pm

I think it was about this time last year when work was supposed to start on improving Avda Las Naciones in the centre of town. Wider pavements, parking sorted, pedestrian only areas, filling in the potholes etcetera etcetera etcetera.

Then it was "delayed" due to funding conflicts and other reasons. A year on and still nothing has happened and, quite frankly, it's getting quite dangerous walking down some of the pavements. Crossing the road is horrendous with cars parked right up to the crossings so you can't see the cars and the drivers can't see you. Bad enough for someone who can walk without problems but for the less mobile amongst us it must be quite an undertaking.

Anyone have any idea if any of this work is actually going to be carried out? Last year it was we can't start it so it will have to wait until after the tourist season. We'll be getting to this year's season before we know it and still nothing has been done.

For Your Information a response from Derek Monks:
Dear Sir,
We have been informed by the Diputación de Alicante, who are in charge of the project providing 60% of the funding, that we will receive information during November regarding a revised commencement date. Until then we cannot offer you any more clarity.
As soon as we know, we will advise everyone
Best regards

I agree with Marcliff. Even as a driver you have to be very careful especially around the Don Carlos part. Someone is going to get hurt and to be honest I am surprised it has not happened already. You see people with impaired mobility having to watch every step as the pavements are downright dangerous now. It was not Valencia that promised us improvements last year it was the mayors office. Funny how Rojales main streets have all been refurbished!!! Just a cynic.

The place is a shit hole! The pavements are a disgrace, poor road markings, traffic horrendous, too many advert signs on poles. Every building is becoming an estate agents and benijofar etc looks immaculate. All down to these b'stards in local government

Some people need to get a life.
If you don’t like it move back simple,
It’s Spain it will happen when it happens.
Just enjoy the lifestyle and sun.

I went to a meeting today of all the Community Presidents, Derek was there, as was the Mayor. They gave a presentation of all the works that are being carried out in the Municipality of Rojales, and Naciones was mentioned. It transpired that there was a problem last year with the structure of the existing road and pavements, and it the contract had to back to the construction company for modifications. The work is starting this September, it should start in May but that is not realistic because of all the holiday makers. The pavement s are being widened, lowered and more ramps for people with impaired mobility and/or prams Also the taxi rank is being moved, to a dedicated rank by Plaza Blanca. The funding is in place for all of these works. If you live on a Community ask your President if he/she attended the meeting this morning and they should be able to give you more information.

And this is what we pay our taxes for? The traffic on there is terrible and I avoid it at all costs. I've lived here for 15 years and think I've contributed enough into the coffers to have a decent main street in Quesada which is safe for everyone to use. Sick of arrogant people saying if you don't like it move back. We pay our dues and should get something in return.
