I'm inclined to disagree as I find it much easier and quicker to keep my fully carpeted UK home floor clean than my tiled Spanish home.

I'm not saying that I would want fitted carpet in Spain though, but it is less trouble to run a vacuum over the carpet than it is to clean the Spanish tiles that are forever showing the dirt and dust balls everywhere (and we always take off out outdoor shoes in both houses!) We get quite exhausted, first sweeping the floors and then filling buckets with water and bleach and mopping the floors and then waiting for the floors to dry. I'm feeling tired now at the thought.

I do love the cool tiles in the hot weather though!

I just buy a good pair of slippers keeps your feet warm and off the cold tiles and of course much cheaper than carpets, easy to store in the summer months when not needed and back to nice cool tiles .

I must admit that we were quite a apprehensive about having fitted carpets in the summer, but it made no difference whatsoever. The house was no warmer plus we have air-con in all the rooms and though I agree with you that cool tiles are nice in the hot weather, it was a worthwhile trade off to have a cosy warm house in the winter. Yes, it is so much easier to hoover and there`s nothing better than sinking your bare feet into thick luxurious pile carpet. :)

Our Spanish friends are absolutely flabbergasted when they see it but after a tour of the house, they are won over. In fact two of our Spanish friends have had their houses done by the same company. :D

As I say each to his own. Fitted carpets may be easier to clean than tiles but the fact is you cannot clean fitted carpets like you can clean tiles. It is different in the UK but here I think fitted carpets are a big no no, a refuge for insects.

Why do you have to have the last word on any topic! You already made your point 4 times!! As you say 'each to his own'! So let it be.

Wow, carpet slippers, fitted carpets, benefits, no benefits. My post was not to affend nor be critical of individuals circumstance need CWP or not. Only for me to a point be of 'Principal' which i beleve to be my right. I decided that following my retirement we decided to leave the UK not that i was a once proud Englishman but someone that had worked and paid into a system i once believed in that would someday in my then rose coloured glasses would look afer those that 'worked' and 'payed' into our future as we got older. But, i like many had to request a forecast of entitlement of what the UK Govt were prepared to give us! When we left the UK and i can still vividly remember as i framed our tickets. Not sad, just in some ways a relief. We left of of our own accord not being paid to leave as some undesireable imiigrants but because we chose too for our sanity. We did not ask for anything to leave, or more importantly did not ask anything of Spain to give us or ask for. As most of you know we are not entitled too anyway. But, as a man of principal, why is my country of birth giving everything to those that do not pay into previously earn and more importantly in my previous experience just grab what is there to be taken by all that asks and be paid too dependands oveseas and i dont mean Spain. EXCEPT, those that have paid into a system for in excess of 30+ plus years to allow other elected ? to give away our entitlements. In conclusion, i totally agree with Martin who i met earler last year with the Uk Vice Counsellor along with other members of the Expat community, we have the lowest retirement pension in Europe, why because, Spain give it to you when you retire, the UK deny it to us for paying in to it So, fellow getawayees it is not the money it is the principal of being disrespected of who we are and who we were. British Taxpayers. Those that PAID month on month years and many more years to follow. Sadly forgotten the payees into a system.

So I assume you will be refusing your free bus pass if you move to a place that has buses.
You will not accept the pensionista discount at waterparks, zoos, botanical gardens, aquariums and so on plus you will pay for the lift up to the top of the mountain in Alicante. You will not be registering for the Imserso and nor will you register your S1 with the health authorities in Spain as you've never paid into it.
Good on you.

It appears we have someone who has too much time on his hands and is digging up threads from over a year ago to comment on with silly statements like he doesn't eat Spanish food and has the heating on now until April.

Troll or attention seeker?
