Prefer San Bartolomé, last week, straight in and out, no issues at all.

Never used the Torrevieja one as I’ve heard they can be quite rude. I find the San Bartolme staff are very friendly. Had three tests done there (failed last time on tyres) but they’re always pretty helpful and most of the staff speak English too!

Does anyone know if and what the grace period is for ITV test ie if it is due 1st April must it be done by that day as we won’t be here

No grace period! You can’t drive a car when the ITV has expired. You would need to hire a tow truck (Grua) to take it to a test centre if you let it expire!

You can have the ITV done about one month before the expiry date.

Sounds like you might be ‘here’ at the moment. In which case you could leave your car keys with a trusted friend or neighbour and ask them to take your car for the test in March. If you’re not here now, maybe post the key to the friend or neighbour?

Any days left on the current ITV ticket on the test day will be added to the new ITV Certificate. There are also garages around who would do this for you. Good luck

Went to the one in Torrevieja last week, straight in and out, no queue, no problems.

Did mine two weeks ago, man spoke to me in English...just make sure where all your buttons are for e.g. fog lights etc.

I use the San Bartolome centre all tbe time and always found them friendly and helpful.

Regarding drjving with an expired ITV whilst it's true that strictky speaking the vehicle should not be driven in practice if you have an appointment and are directly on your way to it the cops will usually wave you on your way.

Worst case is a €200 fine reduced to €100 if paid within 21 days.

The simple lack of a current ITV will NOT impact your insurance although having an accident in a significantly unroadworthy car might.

You can of course take a car for an ITV whenever you choose, you do not have to wait until it's near expiry, you will only get one months credit for going early though so a maximum of a 13 month certificate.
