Leaving Larger Items By The Bins?

I often see larger items left next to the bins, and normally are picked up by random people in a van over the next day or two.

Is there a general rule about what and how big the items can be.
Is it even really allowed?

Not sure about 'allowed' but it seems to be the standard way for the Spanish to get rid of just about anything, tv's, beds, sofas, baths, you name it.

I imagine the random collections you mention could be illegal immigrants trying to scratch a living, anything with wood in for instance is sellable or burnable.

Brings up an interesting question though which is where does one get rid of such items officialy, I've yet to find a municipal dump like you would see in every town in UK?

It is not allowed to dump Items by the bins!

In Quesada you should contact the town hall and tell them exactly what Items you have to get rid of and you put hem outside your property on a Thursday and they collect FREE. The contact No is on a lot of the bins!

The number to ring is 965306807 and they will take it away FREE.

There is a municipal dump in Quesada opposite the water park but you need a permit to use it - Someone else will give you details.

There is also a pick up day to leave your items out for collection - Ask in the town hall.

Interesting, if its not allowed, wonder why so many do it.
Maybe, the items are not there long enough for the authorities to worry about it?

A few things have changed.
You can now ring the municipal centre any day on 96 572 57 22. It used to be collected on Thursday only.

You only require a permit for the Rojales tip if you are dumping garden waste.

There is also a municipal tip in Torrevieja behind the fire station which is larger and has more facilities for recycling.

Love the way it's "the standard way for Spanish to get rid of things". The areas around here are full of stuff to be collected or just dumped and I very much doubt if we have any Spanish families at all living in the area or, if we do, then it would be very few. I'm afraid the expats are the guilty ones around here.

The "bin divers" are recyling operatives (honest). Mainly looking for wood or metal or electrical items. Some of them perform quite a valuable service but it's a shame some of them seem to throw stuff out of the bins and leave a mess all over the place.

Leaving anything by the green bins is now classed as fly tipping and if caught a large fine will follow, you don't know when you are now are being photographed by someone as you do it, all this helps keep the area clean.

Please don’t dump items by the bins. Those of us who have bins outside our house have to put up with the sight (and often the smell!) of such things!

The reason people do it is because they’re too lazy, or ignorant to find out the proper way of disposing of their rubbish and just leave it out for other people to deal with.
