Letter of invitation

My son partner and grandson are coming for one week beginning of April travelling with Ryanair Exeter to Alicante staying at our home in Torrevieja. We have just heard about this letter of invitation and realise we will not be able to get one in time. Is this really a thing? Does anyone know of people being turned away from passport control for not having one

If you are concerned, write it out in a email.

To whom it may concern:

Sir/madam.
My Son (Name, DOB, address, Passport number, His Partner, Name, DOB, address, Passport number and my Grandson Name, DOB, address, Passport number.
Are invited to come to my villa and spend time with me from (Date until Date).
Please accept this as my official notification and invitation.
Yours sincerely
Name, DOB, Address, Mobile/telephone number. NIE number.


Ask your son to print it off and make a copy 2 copies per person. One for them and one to give customs if they request it.
In the event they are stopped and questioned the email is evidence as might be required.

it’s what I did, but no one asked them, they just walked through and I picked them up from Alicante airport.

The Letter of Invitation/Carta de Invitacion does not apply to UK citizens as you have Visa Free entry to the EU.
