Liberty insurance - will shortchange you.

Liberty insurance - will shortchange you.

Venting and a little caution with who you deal with.

An elderly man drove into my partners car, while she was parked.

Knocked the bumper off, hitting the back wheel & arch.

We find we share the same insurance company as the guy who hit my partners car. LIBERTY.

We have the car bumper . arch fixed by recommended garage. So badly, that the garage had to re-do.

We then when collected the car noticed a noise around the rear wheel - quite loud & some vibration, quite worrying.

Contacted LIBERTY the following day, who denied this was related - claiming 'wear and tear' - the cars done 18,000 kms! we've got now an undiagnosed fault which was caused by a car hitting the exact area / wheel where the problem is and have been told by the broker, there's nothing we can do other than fill out a complaints form - and even if we get an independent review, likely will go nowhere.

The broker in their defence agrees this stinks and even contributed €102 towards this repair.

In the meantime, could have a €500?? job on my hands to fix a car as LIBERTY - who employ the assessor.......we don't think the car was ever really assessed - they just looked at the bumper & when we've complained the car is 'not right' - written a phoney report as its not been re-inspected after found the fault.

So, we can't do much, i'm going to get a large bill despite being insured and sadly is not the first time we've been burned by LIBERTY. As this message suggests, my recommendations for THIS INSURANCE COMPANY IS TO WALK AWAY. They wriggle out half of the claim.

It's a bit like being punched in the eye and claiming the black eye the following morning is not related to the punch, but is wear and tear.

Better out than in ;-)

I had a problem with Linea Directa's assessor who refused my claim, so I complained to the insurance ombudsman, who's report said I was right and Linea Directa was wrong.
So it's worth making a complaint to the ombudsman, it's got to be worth a try.

I had simular experience with liberty,
Asked my broker for the insurance ombudsman contact details, that did the trick, Liberty fully repaired the car to as it was,

I suggest that you write a personal letter to the Liberty CEO, acquainting him/her of the facts in as much detail as possible , and if possible furnish an independent assessment of both the damage and its likelihood to be as a result of the incident you have outlined.
Suggest it in his and his companies interest to put an end to the prevarication going on regarding an obvious and genuine claim, with which the public at large would take a dim view of the company. should they so be informed of the matter through the media at large who just love this sort of cavalier approach to company responsibilities.
I do not suggest this lightly, in the last 25 years I have undertaken the suggested action with two major insurance companies, one British and one continental. The first paid out an additional 29 K and the second an additional 14K in final settlements. It will cost you little and satisfaction could be the reward. You may care to appoint a " Loss Adjuster " to do the work for you, usual rates 15% of result, I did in the first case but undertook the matter in the second case with the intervention of the Spanish Ombudsman. My submission amounted to a bound 174 pages, but in your case perhaps a few A5 pages , illustrated, would suffice.
Best of luck and I cannot see you failing, go get them man !
