Looks like you could have a fire with a flue? I thought they were those very old houses like they have in La Siesta, like terrace houses. Thank you

Nobody should be in a freezing cold house.
I think Chrisdee’s idea of the glass bricks is terrific. If you are planning to live in your house, I’d investigate the glass curtains or something similar. It’s a long term investment.
You could do a much cheaper job by getting one of the local aluminium makers to close off the part that goes up towards the ceiling and a perspex door in front of the stairs. All the other suggestions will help but IT’S VITAL THAT YOU SEAL OFF THE STAIR WELL. Any heat in your room will now remain in your room. Install the fire once you’ve sealed off the stairs.
If you feel you can’t afford to do these jobs, put. Curtain pole up and look in the charity shops for used curtains. I’ve giving lots to SATS on the Orihuela Road close to the exit for San Miguel ( Sunday and Wednesday 10 to 12)

Sorry but I've no idea how to attach an image. Lola style homes are quite popular in the Dona Pepa area of Quesada. They are normally 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom and on a community. I've followed the advice given and closed all internal doors and the shutters in the evening. The air conditioning has been a lot more effective after doing that. Once the energy prices come back to normal I'll look at alternative methods of heating. Thank you all for the advice.

We have a lola house and we have installed infrared panels against the ceiling. It gives a nice warm feeling and the heat stays for a long time. And it saves you 30 to 40 procent on electricity. No need to upgrade your electric. We used a company that can place the panels on the ceiling so there is no waist of space. Best investment ever.
