Lorry Drivers

Many have left the industry due to the IR35 taxation rules brought in by Toady Bliar and his cronies, specifically Dawn Primorolo, or "Dim Prawn", as she became known. The tax has decimated the freelance IT industry, and is now working it's magic on the hauliers.

And there’s me thinking that IR35 was brought in to combat tax avoidance by workers, and the firms hiring them. I can understand why some people were upset by it.

Strange reaction.
Unfortunately, it affected over 150,000 people with their own limited companies who were - completely within the letter of the law - issuing dividends.
And as I'm sure you know - tax avoidance is 100% legal. Tax evasion is not.

Thought this was an interesting article. It includes a graphic breakdown of the reasons the Road Haulage Association members believe are causing driver shortages.

The government have handled this fuel shortage very badly. The army should have been out in force during the night delivering fuel to garages all over the country.
Brexit or pandemic? I’m going to blame the massive financial loss experienced during the lockdowns for what is happening. Nobody is going to accept the basic wage as it is any longer. I heard a restauranteur saying that the cost of food has doubled. The cost of eating out will become unaffordable soon. The cost of everything is going to become shocking. I think the same will happen in Spain and all of Europe too. If anyone is considering doing work to their home or buying something major, do it soon before you can’t afford to do it at all.
The cost of fuel will increase. I’m not trying to preach doom and gloom, I’m telling you what’s happening. I believe the cost of flights are going to be double the cost today. We are all going to feel it big time.
My sister paid a painter/decorator £200 per day to paint snd emulsion her hall. Including paint £800. I told her that that she’d been robbed but my other sister paid the same recently to our local decorator. Thank goodness I had my house completely transformed before the lockdown. People won’t be able to live and that’s where it all falls down.

I can't understand how people can claim that the HGV driver shortages in the UK, which have left supermarket shelves empty, is a Europe wide problem.
I can't see any shortages here in Spain.
The problem is the direct result of Brexit and it's lies. One of which was "All these foreigners over here taking our jobs". Well, this is one of the results which, by the way, was cited as an issue but was swept away with "Scaremongering".
The Toxic Tories started this shit show and have no idea how to cope

The shortage has been created by all of those people who are working from home with their cars on their drives with half a tank of petrol in them...whipped up into a frenzy by the Media, and who now have a car on their drive with a tank full of petrol?
If the UK public weren't so intent on listening to the media, things would tick along quite nicely.
Either that, or the eco-ers trying to get us to part with an extra £10000 for an electric car are causing it!!!

In a few weeks time when everyone has a tank full of petrol, the garage owners will be complaining that they are not doing enough trade. Swings and roundabouts.
