Marcliffe is just a brilliant contributor. Someone who is vital to a forum such as this. Don't think he has ever been wrong in the information he provides. If it is the case that he has been deterred from contributing because of trolls and they will know who they are and what they have done then they should be ashamed of themselves

Google Chrome is excellent at translating but if you are translating legal terms and points of law you have to be spot on.

Which is where I always feared he could leave himself wide open. It only takes one missing word or a simple transcription error to completely change the context of a statement.

He was still better than Google Translate.

Don't know why everyone was ascribing things to me that weren't true. Trolls don't bother me, ex scaley back, broad shoulders and I can hack it.

I've been away because my wife has been rather ill. She had flu a few weeks ago, as did I, which wasn't that bad at the time but the after effects struck her rather badly. Covid test negative but an extremely bad cough, feeling very unwell in general. Doctor gave me a note to take her to the hospital in Torrevieja.
She was x-rayed, thoroughly checked over and they decided she should be kept in for observation. More covid tests (negative) but lingering flu. Overnight in the observation ward while they found a bed for her wasn't very pleasant. Next day in a room and they kept her in for 3 nights and did more tests. I stayed overnight with her after coming home to get PJs and washing kit etc.

They let her out with instructions to monitor temp and BP (temp wasn't critical as it only went to 37.3 and came down with a paracetamol). BP was quite high, though. Hospital care was marvellous, by the way, apart from the food. Luckily I could go home and make some home made soup fo take to her or use the cafeteria downstairs when she was feeling a bit better (the so - called fish stew they gave her was really water with lots of grease and she got fed up with apple juice for breakfast). But the doctors and nursing staff in the hospital were brilliant (first night she did throw up rather violently and, after hearing the stories about relatives having to clean up after patients, I went to get a cloth but a nice lady from the cleaning staff came along, did it all, changed the top sheet and gave her a wash down).

Since she's been home she's been getting better but I've been acting as her carer and doing the cleaning, shopping and cooking and so on. (Hope she doesn't get used to it). Feeling better now but still worried about the BP even with a daily Ramipril. Obviously a bit worried as, although at 73 she says she's not old, she is in the danger zone.

You don't get rid of me that easily but don't think it's because of the trolls although I've just spent several hours going through the misinformation that's been posted since I've been gone (the Irish in the EU was a particular one) and the self righteous postings (someone asks a Q about where to recycle cardboard and you get pages blaming the elderly for not recycling) or the latest I've just caught up on where someone asks why their pension is a bit lower and you get pages of misinformation about the WFA (you don't get WFA if you are a resident in Spain and haven't since Ian Duncan Smith stopped it in 2015).

So don't think you've got rid of me yet. Won't be spending as much time on here for a bit until she recovers fully (Coronation St on at the moment so I'm getting a bit of respite at the moment). But I could be the proverbial bad penny.

Oh, and just to clarify about my level of Spanish. FYI, I did a 9 month solid (ie every day) Spanish course back in 1979 courtesy of the Royal Air Force (no, I wasn't RAF but they did the Spanish courses). The spent nearly 3 years in Central America over the next 5 years, the bits missing were in the S Atlantic). Leaving that, I went to a place (sh) in Cheltenham where I spent the next 3 years mainly translating Spanish documents into English (no such thing as Google translate then). A break away from that for several years but I did attend Bristol University for a few months to add an A level to my Civil Service Commission and O level quals.

Before the pandemic, I was attending the University at Alicante for one morning a week to study Catalan/Valenciana. The pandemic put a stop to that after 3 months, unfortunately, and they don't have any places at the moment. I do read the Spanish and Valencian papers on a regular basis (without using Google Translate) to keep my hand in.
