The thing to watch with these that are not charging commission or transfer fees is what exchange rate they are using. You need one which is as close to the interbank rate as possible with the smallest fees.

Yes, Santander might not charge commission. But they have a lousy exchange rate.

benjy, I get commercial rate, not tourist, from Santander. 1.13 today. Beat that.

Easy Peazy. TransferWise Have been over offering 1.1330 all day and are now offering 1.1337. Even with £4.29 charge for £1000 transfer, it’s still £5.71 better than Santander. Not a lot I know, but better in our pockets.

You don't know where Benjy gets what rate from?? The figures he's quoted are from TransferWise's website and they're slightly better than the rate you got from Santander.

It makes me laugh when people say there are "No charges" - you're charged somewhere, mate, foreign exchange isn't a charity, it's just that the banks hide their fees, whereas TransferWise is totally transparent.

paulr I have used Santander for over 5 years, no charges. You get commercial rate. In that time I have advised countless people about this.
