Octopus energy

The people in Carrefour and Leroy Merlin are not Iberdrola staff. They are private contractors who work on commission which has been pointed out before.

Much easier to simply do it through the Iberdrola website and it translates to English as well. You can also remove the spurious insurances from there as well. Definitely seems cheaper on the web.

A couple of years or so ago, this site was full of people saying they'd moved and were saving 10 to 20 euro a month on their bills. Then we got the power crises with things going up and now the same people complaining their bills were in the hundreds each month.

[quote="Jonlamb"]I have a feeling that I was duped (naive) into paying more than their cheapest rates by their people in the likes of Carrefour and Leroy Merlín.
I don't trust Iberdrola now.
I'm not pushing octopus but here is the link to their rates.

The people in Leyroy Merlin and Carrefour are self employed and do not work for Iberdrola they earn commission

When I signed up to change contract (some years ago) to the choose your 8 hours, one of the options was to select household appliance insurance or not and to accept green insurance or not.
Probably only does it when you are changing contracts which is not advisable at the moment due to the gas cap warning.

Under the contract about home appliance insurance, it says you can cancel at any time by ringing 900 110 011 but I bet they don't make it as easy as that.
They also say they have a service in English on 900 225 235 but I remember phoning that once and was on hold for a very long time.

Just to conclude, I researched octopus and they are a large company in much of Europe and have a high ' trust pilot' score of I think 4.6 out of 5.
I'm now on the all day fixed tariff of 16.8p., which is less than half of what I was paying. Signing up was quick using the link in my first post here and the changeover is done in 3 days, which I'm a bit dubias about, but we will see.
I can't understand why Iberdrola are using agents who are tricking you into paying much more than iberdrolas cheapest rates. Personally it stinks, and I will never use Iberdrola again.
Thankyou to the forum for putting me straight.

IIRC When I changed my Iberdrola contract to the 8 hour plan some years ago I had to opt out of their insurance on the form. It could be that the O/P inadvertently signed up for the insurance items.

For comparision our peak period is at 0.298 Kwh and the cheap rate is 0.139 Kwh

I have noticed that we are now subjected to the following regulatory charges...
REGULATORY CHARGES
Fixed funding for subsidised rate (25/01/2023-31/01/2023) 6 days x 0,036718 €/day 0,22 €
Fixed funding for subsidised rate (31/01/2023-22/02/2023) 22 days x 0,038455 €/day 0,85 €
Limit for gas price RDL 10/2022 (1) 268 kWh x -0,000997 €/kWh -0,27 €
Adjustment mechanism System Op. RDL 10/2022 (1) 268 kWh x 0,000719 €/kWh 0,19 €
Electricity tax (*) 0,5% s/70,92 € 0,35 €

EDIT I´ve just had another look at my bill and my usage ratio of cheap to peak is currently 2 to 1. Which means that my average tarrif is 0.19 Kwh. What´s the best stable tarrif available at the moment? Maybe time to move to Otopus stable plan at 0.175 Kwh.
