Overcharging in supermarkets

Overcharging in supermarkets

Postby Chrisdee » Sun Oct 10, 2021 3:53 pm

Does anybody check their receipts from supermarkets etc? I've been overcharged 3 times this week. Once in Carrefour 3.06 instead of 2.99 for Hellmans mayonaise and twice in Lidl 1.59 instead of 89 for biscuits and 99 cents instead of 89 cents for Magdalenas cakes. As i got 4 packs of biscuits the difference was 2.80, not right in my opinion.

Luckily I shop daily so don't have a lot to check normally, if I can't check it as they are doing it I normally check it before I leave, Saturday I didn't, seems a waste of my time going there tomorrow for 10c but I will. Yes they do go at 100 miles an hour and sling it down the counter

I did buy a few bits from carrefour the other day and noticed they were advertised at a different price to what the checkout ran them through at. It was only a few cents so I couldn't be bothered making a fuss. Still, out of principle the price advertised should be the price paid. Don't really check the receipt but given your experience i think i will start doing it.

That's exactly how I feel but I can't help myself, I think to myself "How many people have paid that extra few cents and not noticed, whilst Carrefour or whoever are raking it in". It just infurriates me. Regards Mrs Meldrew, think I better change my profile picture!

The problem with Carrefour is you need to take a calculator around with you to work out the discounts. Buy one get a third of the third one or second item reduced by 40% and so on.

Oh don't! I was there ages trying to work out the best value for the bloody mayonnaise, the one I got was 2.99 for 850ml then when I walked around they had 2 smaller ones where you paid for one and the other was half price, I tried to work it out but was getting my knickers in a bloody twist. I decided the 2.99 was best but wasn't 100% sure. It is a minefield. I'm coming back as a man next time!!

There is sometimes some small print that tells you the price per kilo or litre etc. to help you work out the best value.
