Hi did you take it back to bear if you did you need a good quality sealant first, if you did not then either it was not sanded enough or the paint was not compatible with the previous paint either way looks like you will have to go back to basics and strip completely, also if they are new it is better to wait and let them weather for 12 months before sealing them.

For good paint the paint shop in Formentera next to the auction can advise what is the best Spanish paint to use.

We use a paint that comes in 2 parts, the white paint is mixed with a clear liquid, we buy it from the paint warehouse in Torreveija, you have to use it within an hour as it dries very quickly and has a high gloss shine, and doesn't peel.

We always use acrylic paint on the balustrade and it lasts around 4 years. Wash it down and slap some more on.

For durability of gloss and handling, fabricated metalwork in Spain is mostly powder coated polyester which is also the best colour fast, UV resistant and cost effective in manufacturing
It cannot however be replicated by diy.
This has to be thoroughly abraded to provide a “key” for subsequent hand applied coatings. A two component acrylic paint is next best to polyester in terms of comparability, sun fading and hardness, but as a previous writer pointed out, it is a time limited operation as it utilises a chemical reaction.... best to mix small quantities at a time for less waste.
There are other brushable alternatives, but most will be poorer performance and some will require a tie coat to maximise adhesion

Good luck!!

I agree with the previous post, use an acrylic paint, looks good for years and most marks wash off with warm soapy water leaving it looking as if it has just been painted.

We found the best thing was to sand them downlightly and then wipe down, and when dry put a coat or two of sealant (PVA type Spanish equivalent) and then using a good Acrylic gloss white paint. That way the balastrades stay good for longer and look lovely.

Agree Jan. We applied a coat of PVA after rubbing down to seal the concrete, then we used Balustrade paint we bought from AKI. It isn't gloss finish though like acrylic.
