Pool Heating?

Pool Heating?

Postby lowers » Mon Sep 28, 2020 1:32 pm

Hi,Bit of advice please!I am about to get a 7m x 3.5m above ground pool.Would like to heat it so kids can swim all year.Do solar heaters actually do the job in the winter or would an electric heater be a better option.I was reading that it costs about €1000 a year for the electricity with an electric heater.Solar looks cheaper but i also read that it doesnt do the job unless you have a huge solar panel and a back up heater?Any advice greatly appreciated!

Using a heat pump will on average only raise the temperature about 4 degrees higher than normal so still very cold in winter months, on the plus side it will give you an extra month either side of normal use. You will still need to use a proper cover and have the hassle of removing it each time you want to use the pool.

You can always dig a big hole about 6 feet deep and half fill with sand then run the water supply pipes in a circuit on the sand then top up with sand and lay a layer of fake grass on the top you will be surprised how hot the water will get

Hi I have a 10 m x 5 pool with both a solar cover and a pool heater and swim all year round no problem.

Gary at Swim365 installed my heater and is very helpful and will advise you. Tel 665 187 662.
Mention my name Sheena to him as I am always happy if he wants to bring people round to see my heater.
I am on the night and day electric rate and dont find it expensive at all.

We have a 6x4 metre pool with a 4kw heater installed. To be honest we really only use it about a month either side of what you would call half-decent weather. It can take several days to really see a difference in the water temperature when its not so nice outside. The last time we did use it was a damp and miserable Easter last year. The water temperature at the start was only 14 degrees. We did get it up to 25 degrees but it did take a while. In the end, the grand-kids only used it once (poor weather) so that turned out to be an expensive idea. I'm glad we have it for those special times but I certainly wouldn't have it running all through the winter. The higher electricity bill didn't put us off using it but wouldn't have it on all the time.
Sorry, to comment on Solar. I think electric heating is by far the best way forward. We also tried a solar cover but it was such a pain removing and putting it back on. In the end the hot summer sun degraded it so it ended up in the skip after only 2 years.

Do you mind me asking what sort of cost it is for running a pool heater? we've just bought a place with a pool and would love to be able to swim all year round so are thinking of installing one. Thanks, Tony
