Portable air cons

Portable air cons

Hi, has anyone purchased one of these small aircons
that they sell on Amazon for £20? Or can anyone recommend one that’s suitable for a bedroom that’s not going to be expensive to run

They aren't aircon units. They are fans that blow air over cold water or ice. As the water warms up, the cooling effect is reduced
Several discussions about them already on here and the reviews they get are pretty poor. Put cooler in the search box on the top right.
They are "personal" air coolers so probably OK for just one person. Proper aircon, though expensive at first, is cheaper to run if you get the right type with and inverter.
Also note that a lot of them come from Singapore or Hong Kong so you may be charged import duty when they arrive in Spain.

We've just bought one from Leroy Merlin for 199€. We got the area of the room and bought one to suit. It works well, we use it after 10.00pm, as we're on day night rate and its only 0.05€/unit so depending on the power consumption it will cost accordingly. I hope this helps.

I tried many of these "alternative" cooling systems years ago .
Trust me , there is no substitute for a proper air-conditioning unit .
I wasted a lot of money in the process.

Got to agree with the posts that the only worthwhile coolers is a professionally fitted air con unit.
We have been in Spain for 10 years now and when we first arrived we bit the bullet and paid almost E1000 for two A+ Inverter Units from Carrefour. That price included delivery and fitting. They are cheap to run.
They are both still going strong - never had to have them serviced - there is a dust filter which is easily accessible which you simply remove, brush and place back.
The price may seem extortionate, but believe me, you learn quickly in Spain that you get what you pay for!!
Others may have different opinions - just telling you our experience.
As far as we are concerned it was money well spent.
Cooling nicely while typing this.
Best of Luck
