Protection against excessive errant golf balls
Protection against excessive errant golf balls
by Smithk2 » Wed Apr 19, 2017 11:49 am
Hi everyone. Our house is down by the golf course and probably like everyone else, we get huge numbers of golf balls in our garden. In the last 3 weeks we have had more than 80. Quite apart from the damage they do, I am most concerned about our safety and that of our grandchildren who will be coming to stay here in August. Does anyone know of someone who could fit some high protective nets for us? We will be speaking to the golf club as well to see what they are prepared to do but I understand from some of the neighbours that they have been less than helpful. Any info on anyone who could help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

We have about 300. Make me an offer - it can go towards the cost of the nets.

Sorry, I don´t wish to appear unsympathetic but it never ceases to amaze me when people buy properties next to bars and are then surprised that there is some noise. Equally as you must have moved very close to a very busy golf course, it is no surprise that you are getting peppered with golf balls. The golf season is in "full swing" but as we move towards the end of May and the current Scandinavian migration completes, things will start to quieten down and August is probably the quietest golf month in Spain. You are right to be worried for the safety of your grand kids, so you will be wise to install some sort of netting and I´m sure that any of the many builders recommended on TalkQuesada could rig something up for you.

Thanks for your comments. I wasn't looking for sympathy, simply advice on where to get nets. Having lived next to a golf course in the UK for nearly 30 years, I am not surprised that golf balls come in to the garden. However, in the UK, a couple a month would be average and certainly not the volume we have here. It appears that the screening with trees is not sufficient here and there is a lack of nets which is the problem here. I am quite happy to sort the problem myself but will still alert the golf club as they do have a duty of care. I am not new to this property having owned here since 1999. However some trees appear to have been cut back recently making the problem worse. it never ceases to amaze me that there is always someone who likes to make a smug comment. Thank you for mentioning local builders. I will try them.

Could you not find a sympathetic Lawyer, and start proceedings against the golf course? Maybe then they will wake up and do something.

I have always thought that all sports should be played in defined areas, such as courts for tennis, pitches for football/rugby etc and likewise courses for golf, this course also has some out of bounds areas surrounding the playing area, with longer grass and trees, allowing for errant shots. The fact you are getting so many golf balls in your property leads me to think either the golf course is poorly designed or there are some really bad golfers playing at Quesada, having watched some golfers playing said course I can certainly confirm the latter but maybe the golf course management need to be made aware in case there has been some change recently. Surely living close by a golf course shouldn't mean an expectation of being "peppered" with golf balls, any more than living close to a main road means you should have buses and lorries crashing through your property.

I donot wish to sound flippant but when I viewed this thread the advert at the top was "hit straight every time". Ah if only they did you would not have a problem.

Ha Ha. If only. We have someone coming out to see what they can do for us with nets.
