Refuse collection

Refuse collection

Postby leslie thorpe » Wed Oct 16, 2019 5:26 pm

Is anyone aware of why we appear to be having serious problems with refuse collection. I live in La Fiesta in Quesada and our main general bins are now only be getting emptied every 3 days. I have also noticed that the wagons now only have a driver and 1 operative, rather than a driver and 2 operatives. The problem with flies is becoming very bad and I wonder how long before this escalates into a problem with rats. The recycling is no better with those bins overflowing as well. These issues have deteriorated markedly in the last few weeks
Anyone any info please ?

I have complained to Derek Monks (he's in the Municipal Centre in Quesada, also on Facebook) twice in the last fortnight. He says they are supposed to collect daily and wants to be informed if this is not happening. It really is becoming a health hazard now. I know there is a problem with landfill after the floods.

Today I wrote to Derek (including photos) and the Town Hall, via Facebook Messenger, about the infrequent collections in Dona Pepa. I also highlighted that when the wagon does arrive, it’s not unusual for only one bin to be emptied.

As yet, neither has answered.

Yesterday i spoke to the operatives of the lorry collecting the refuse on Avenida aeropuerto, they told me that a new contractor was in place. the ayuntamiento is only paying for one lorry in place of the previous two, this is of course causing the delay in refuse collections... even if this is not the whole story it explains why there is not the daily collections..... hopefully it will be resolved in the near future...

Drove around Quesada /Benimar yesterday and about 90% of bins full to overflowing. When I drove through Rojales, not one bin full! Looks to me like we are getting the same second-hand treatment that La Marina get from San Fulgencio, and that Orihuela Costa get from Orihuela town hall. We provide the majority of income for services yet the focus is on the town not the satellite sites.

Or is it that, the predominantly Spanish areas get the services but, the immigrant ghettos don’t?

Derek (Monk) lives in Doña Pepa, so he will be subjected to the sight of all the local overflowing bins, just as everyone else is. There are always poor excuses, but whichever councillor is responsible for such a simple matter as refuse collections is a disgrace to we tax payers.

Totally agree with the opening post. We live in La Fiesta too and until recently our bins were emptied daily, now we are lucky if we see them empty our bin every three days! The service has really gone down hill. The OP is quite right when they reason that we will soon have a plague of rats, how much will it cost to rid us of those? I'm positive that this is another Rojales cost cutting measure, which will end up costing more in the end! Another thing I can't understand is, why put new recycling bins everywhere if they are left to overflow as they rarely get emptied? I personally think that the council have cut back on the local refuse collections as they hope that people will use the recycling bins, thus cutting back on the amount of refuse going into the green/black waste bins. If this is the case I feel they are way out on their calculations. Goodness help us next summer!

Well I live in quesada and our bins are getting emptied every day.
I still feel if people put in the bins what should go in them, it would make life easier.
Garden rubbish, should not go in the bins.
