400€ I agree is a lot of money and I'm sure there are lawyers and other companies out there much cheaper but if you want an easy life, to be taken to Alicante twice and returned, to have your appointments made for you, to have a translator and finally your TIE and you want this for 12€? You've got to look at the big picture! These companies as are all, are in business to make money, they will promote their services and wares of course. If you don't want their service or their goods then don't contract or buy them.
But telling people they have to do it is fraud. That's my point and that is what the governments are concerned about.

I think we all know now you DON'T have to do it. It's our choice whether we want to or not. I'm trying myself and my friend is paying 60 euros so it's stress free. I actually think it's better than the silly piece of paper but each to their own.

Residency to TIE swaps are easy to do yourself for the cost of Eu 12 each - we're doing ours on Friday - but my reading of David's post wasn't how much these "scammers" are charging, rather that they shouldn't be scaring people into paying them anything to carry out a process that doesn't need to be done.

Just find someone who reads Spanish and do it yourself.
Its just 12 Euro and 2 trips to Alicante, so maybe 10 euro in fuel.
Very easy, in and out in 15 mins. Don't need a translator at the office at all.
So all you need is someone to fill in the form (one page and basic info) then to make an online appointment.
After that its just the appointment reference, padron (less than 3 months old), passport (plus one colour copy of the picture pages), green residentia card and a photo.
Pay 12 Euro at the bank on the form provided when getting your appointment. That's it.

I’ve been told by some they like having a piece of plastic, it’s cool
Really, whatever floats your boat
The scaremongering is worse though
Regardless to the rumours, re brexit, the spanish govt is not going to nullify your residency simply because you haven’t got a little piece of plastic
I think mine has come out of my wallet once in five years

The information we have been given is that whilst both the UK and Spanish Governments advise there is no need to change from the green card to the TIE, both are also advising that its recommended to do so.
At present its easy and cheap at 12 Euro. Come next year the price will go up and it could become compulsory. The Spanish police, against both governments bulletins saying not necessary, are themselves also advising that this will become necessary.
So at 12 Euro and why its cheap and a simple process, its worth doing it now to avoid the hassle and expense later.

So get in while it’s cheap.
What evidence do you have to back up that statement?

Everything goes up, especially here in Spain. The same with beurocracy. But feel free to not do it, until next year.

I agree with most posts. My only point in starting this thread was to highlight that if you get a letter from your legal advisor telling you you have to change, get another lawyer, he is lying to you.
That is fraud. And that is what the UK and Spanish authorities are concerned about.
I accept that many decide they want to change. If that is a voluntary choice made in the knowledge that it is a choice and not an obligation, and in the knowledge you can do it yourself for €12, then pay what your advisor charges if you are happy with that.
