I've never quite understood what happens to a perfectly normal person once they get behind the wheel of a BMW !
Well. When I get behind the wheel of my BMW, I continue to be a perfectly normal person. After 45 years of driving experience, I still continue to be amazed by the stupidity of drivers of every single car make and model. Just saying....

Myself and a few friends conducted tests at 20Kmh & 30kmh recently.

We have found the following after 3 days.

1. It is difficult to safely moderate these speeds in many modern cars. Not without continually monitoring the speedometer and taking much eye time off the road in front of you.

2- We have been the only cars driving at this speed and caused queues and honking behind us.

On another thread, I have mentioned after reviewing the DGT´s own published data, it basically states that 8% of all road accidents are attributed to the cause of speed. 92% are óther´. Which interestingly enough, there is no data on. So data on the 8% of speed accidents, but not any published on the 92% of the other causes of accidents, which clearly we should be investigating.

However, with 4.5 million speeding tickets issued, we know the answer.

The new speed limits are likely to be in the main a cynical money grab from the motorist. The rest of Europe is equally as bad - its an easy revenue raiser. What is doesn´t really do much is get to the root cause. Or save more lives, which clearly the data indicates could be the case.

Personally speaking, it annoys me, seeing such slogans as ¨SPEED KILLS´ which technically you could argue is true, if only 8% of the time, so its selling fear and justification of speed cameras - when speed kills under 300 people a year and ´other´ kills just over 6000 (all 2019 data).

We´re not to far away from the chips in the cars and GPS on all cars (removing the need for speed cameras), so this is likely to be short term as 5-10 years all electric / self drive- so maybe they are making a run for the cash now, while they can.

I do agree cameras in areas with safety concerns are justified - outside schools & accident hotspots. But only where proven or needed.

Paul, are the radar apps (and speed camera detectors generally) legal in Spain? I recall in France they were not, although I seem to recall Waze was acceptable as it was a "sharing" app rather than one of a fixed camera database.

Fixed speed camera notifiers are legal in Spain. There is even a government app that lets you know where they are and you can have it on your GPS to tell you of their location.

Radar detectors are not legal.
