Postby Lizzy » Tue May 11, 2021 8:00 pm

Soeed restrictions of 20k and 30k were apparently to be implemented today according to the N332 website.

Has anyody noticed a difference in the traffic speed and speed signs being changed?

Have you tried driving at those speeds, it's practically impossible, can't get out of 2nd gear. Not helped by the fact that the speedo of my little old KA starts at 20, not 0 so I' can't seem to go less than 25kph.

So when you turn the ignition on and it's already on 20?

Yep, and it doesn't move until I go over 20.

It'll be ok when my new car arrives I'm sure but I ordered it in January with 8 weeks delivery but now I'll be lucky to see it next month. Apparently there's a worldwide shortage of a particular chip they need

In the meantime.....

Well that's obvious jpeg but let's face it, they are ridiculously slow, 12.5 and 18.75 mph respectively.

The "Sunday Drivers" must be laughing their heads off right now. I'm just picturing some 90 year old in a Morris Minor tail-gaiting me :)

The Spanish don't seem to have grasped the slower the traffic goes, the worse the air pollution gets, since the engines are running below torque peak (the most efficient cleanest point)

Having said that, the Spanish are dreadful drivers. They are impatient and drive very aggressively, drive at inappropriate speeds, cut you up, pull out in front of you, and have no grasp of road safety. So they have brought it on us all.

I’m slightly confused looking at these posts re the new speed limits. WHEN does anyone in Spain adhere to anything even close to the posted speed limits?

Despite all the warnings, there is clearly very little concern of being caught given the high percentage of drivers breaking the speed limits, often by very significant percentages. It strikes me that Spain is a country that announces new laws and regulations but nobody seems to police them.

Recent headlines mentioned ‘even harsher’ penalties for holding a mobile phone while driving. Yet every day I see numerous people blatantly flouting this ‘law’ as they fly past me doing 40kph over the limit!! This is made worse by the fact that most cars under 10 years old now have hands free Bluetooth technology.

I usually TRY to stay ‘reasonably close’ to the posted speed limits, even when they make no sense! It’s very rare for me to see other drivers in my rear view mirror who are not barrelling towards me at warp factor 5. So yes, we all agree these new limits are simply absurd but will ANYONE even take the slightest bit of notice. Happy motoring y’all.
