Roundabout Info

Just thought this might be interesting or even useful to some people out there.
It is in Spanish but I am sure everybody understands "Bien" (Good) and "Mal" (Bad).

There’s the Spanish way, and there’s the safe way.

No, actually, there is the Spanish way, and there is breaking the law.

Actually both are applicable, look at the blue car A entering from the top then tell me what's safe or legal about the Spanish habit of using the outside lane when aiming for a 3rd or 4th exit?

Also on a completely empty roundabout where's the harm in taking car D's path?

Frankly the diagram strikes me as more a source of confusion then clarity!

Depicting a three lane roundabout doesn't help and there is a certain irony in the term 'glorieta'.

I wonder how a Spanish driver would react if faced with something like this, I'd love to see the civil servants description of how to and how not to navigate it!

The Spanish highway code states that you must only exit a roundabout from the right hand lane, therefore if you are in any other lane, you must signal and then manoeuvre your vehicle to be in the outside lane before you signal and then exit.
The highway code also states that it is polite to signal right if you are not taking the first exit, although this is not compulsory.
There are normally two lanes on a roundabout to cope with one exit being congested, to allow traffic not using that exit, to make progress.
If you imagine the road around a roundabout is a straight piece of road, with exits to the right, you would never dream of crossing from the left hand lane to take your exit, just because the roads is a circle, you should treat it no differently.

It's a pity we don't know where the green car came from. However it almost gets the lane change correct just a bit late into the correct lane which of course should be immediately after the previous exit.

So what's the point of having two?

As I said in my post, if an exit is congested, you can move into the left hand lane to by pass the congestion and continue on your way.
