If RA were go fold I would be forced to sell up in Spain as a ‘commuter’ between the U.K. and Spain for work.

I am concerned what state the airlines will be in post virus and will just have to see. Even if RA lose a few competitors, that might give rise to hefty price increases due to monopolisation of the market. Let’s wait and see.

Ryanair specifically.
I've had the email to say our flights are cancelled to Milan in May (wonder why?) but it only gives me the option of changing the flight dates or changing the name.
There is no option of applying for a refund. If I go on to their link and select manage bookings, just the change of date or name comes up even though the main page says apply for a refund.
Is there some option I am missing to claim the refund?

You should wait till they cancel flight which is probably be about 4 week before then you get option for refund. Do nothing now.

According to Yahoo Finance, Ryanair we’re set to return a €1bn profit despite the March hit.
Unlike some they’ve got fat on the bone.

Ryanair & EasyJet (now that they are cancelling their new plane order) have good cash reserves. But they are burning through £millions every week. Their ability to survive the emergency depends on how long it lasts.

We are already seeing household names in the UK in trouble....Debenhams & Cath Kidston.

They had €3.5 billion cash reserves before this crisis hit. They are burning through €90m a day apparently whilst all is halted.

If your numbers are correct then that's a bit worrying (I thought it was £90M a week)

Without support or further economies then at £90M a day that says they will burn through their reserves in approx 39 days/ less than 6 weeks.

Update on my cancelled ryanair flight, I had a cancelled flight and applied for a refund. Ryanair then sent several emails stating that they are extremely busy but working on my refund.
Finally this morning I received an email with a voucher, so no refund then after all the promises! I'll use it anyway so can't get too excited about it but just thought I would warn others.

If the airlines survive then I'm expecting the cost of flights to rise significantly.
