Santander Bank UK/Spain

Does anyone know, if you have a Santander UK bank account and Santander Spanish bank account, do you pay charges when transferring from the UK account to the Spanish one?

Don’t know if you get charges,but I do know you get a poor exchange rate,open a Wise account then either transfer from that or just use it for all your needs in Spain.

If your transfer is normal (which can take few days to go through) there is no charge. If you wish a same day transfer they charge £25 at the UK branch.

If you have a qualifying UK Santander account you can use your UK debit card to withdraw cash from any Spanish Santander ATM on the mainland, fee free, at the bank (Visa) rate. (Just remember to press the W/O conversion button during the transaction). You won't get a better rate and can withdraw up to your UK max each day.

If you need to transfer larger amounts use Wise https://wise.com/

Yes! All Spanish banks make charges, relevant to your particular account.

Santander ES have charges unless you buy their products or have a certain amount of money coming in each month.

There are no charges for a Santander UK account

Same name two completely separately run banks, both have their own charges. Several banks do do fee free banking for non res, by following a few simple criteria. I could go on, but next time you are here, nip into 3 or 4 different ones locally to you, and ask them how to get a fee free account and how to keep it that way, and they will tell you yes or no. yes, they are two separate companies, Santander UK & Santander ES.

Thank you for all your replies. I will pass the information on to my friend. She hasn’t been here since Covid. Hopefully she will be out before the end of the year and an get it sorted as she has 2 bank accounts and paying fees on both,
