Scummy tea

Re: Scummy tea

When I make tea it never starts off being scummy, make it with regular tap water and semi skimmed milk. and I enjoy the brew without scum. But, because my mug is well weathered, it’s kind of lost it’s shine in the porcelain, so this allows brown tide marks just like your cup and it can be worse than yours.
If it helps, my simple solution is I put a small squirt of neat bleach in the mug once a week, rub it round the whole of the inside with my finger, and leave it for a half hour, I wash it, and it’s then like new again!

Long may you keep on brewing.

If you have already changed the water, try the brand of tea bags and see if it's the same. Then try it with and without milk. Then if it's the same, swap the washing up liquid you use to clean the mugs. That's all the variables i can think of. Yorkshire tea is quite nice tbh although i wouldn't be offended if you offered me alcohol :)

Funnily enough, we’ve just encountered the same problem. The only thing we’ve changed is the kettle, so it can only be that. Oh, and I use Steradent or similar for de-staining mugs - works brilliantly.

My wife has her tea weak and black, but the mug still stains.

Just sent the makers a message asking why it's scummy and found out they own Bettys tea rooms, didn't know that.

I had this problem and was even using a sponge scourer on the inside of the cups as the dishwasher was not removing it either.

I then noticed that the glaze seemed rough on the inside of the cups like parts of it had worn away so tea was going into the now "porous" parts.

Got rid of all the cups and bought new, never changed anything else and not had a problem since.

So feel the glaze on the inside of the cups.... just a thought, as it solved my problem with the same issue you are having Chrisdee.

It's not ground in scum marks, the cups are clean and shiny on the inside, those marks are left on after every cup of tea.

They wipe off after every wash it's just as you drink it and get further down the cup you get that nasty film of scum left around the cup.
I put less milk in today and it weren't so bad so I'm thinking it's the cream in the milk not helping.
