SHORT CHANGED AT GAMA

Re: SHORT CHANGED AT GAMA

We are all responsible for our own safety. Some might suggest that extends to having some responsibility for the safety of others. Shouldn't we all be looking at what we do and how we do it to see if there are ways of further limiting our risk of exposure to the virus ?

In the UK it's generally accepted that handling cash carries a risk of exposure to the virus. As using cards is a way of totally eliminating that particular risk it makes sense to consider using it.

Checking my bill at Carrefour (Elche) they didn’t discount their special offers. I had to request the difference at customer services. If you don’t check your bill you can be ripped off anywhere!

In the UK almost all shops only accept cards. Contactless payments are far safer for the customer and the shop.

The added advantage is you can't be short changed.

Is there not a limit on the contactless cards in Spain? Once you reach that limit you have to put in your PIN on the terminal so you are still exposed to the virus. I would be very doubtful of money being a carrier of viruses. It's been around for thousands of years so well tested and there are billions of people using money in their lives without it being cited as having transmitted a case of Covid-19.

If anyone has some money sitting around that they are afraid to touch I will gladly relieve them of it :)

Getting back to the subject of being short changed at Gama......It is high time Gama’s management dealt with this lady. Lavender’s description of her, the way she followed her to the door, chatting to her with the intention of distracting her from checking her receipt, then immediately offering up the short change when she realised she had been twigged, these are identical tactics she employed with me when she tried to short change me of 10 Euro, as I reported on the forum several weeks ago.
I reported her to the management and took the receipt as evidence, which clearly showed that she had intended to rob me, but it would appear that they have done nothing about it.
I’m not sure if you would want to Lavender, or if Alex would allow it, but I think it is time this lady should be named and shamed on the forum. If I hadn’t thrown away the receipt I would do so myself, having now read of your, almost identical, experience. Her actions are blatantly premeditated and she has to be stopped.
Please let us know what reaction you do get if you report her as I will be quite prepared to go and see the owners, I saw the manageress last time, to insist that they do something about her.

We run an online business and occasionally people want to collect the items personally and pay cash. We accept cash payments but ask that it's provided in either an envelope or a clear plastic bag. We then leave it for a couple of days before handling it.

I suspect the money is 99.9% free of the virus but it's very little effort to mitigate that 0.1% chance that the customer might be a carrier.

What about looking to make a complaint in that complaints book (Libro de reclamaciones)that I've heard about here and that every business is obliged to have?

3 or 4 complaints in that and Gama will be in trouble for knowingly allowing a thief to operate as one of their employees.

many older people do not have cards or know to pay with them, I had a friend in her 90s who died not long ago, it was either cheque or cash. Plenty of places in the U.K. still accept cash, a legal currency, although they advise card payment.

Of course there are always going to be a few people who are just not capable of using a contactless card.

My post was directed more towards those who are fully capable of using a card but who choose not to. It's not that difficult when compared to following all the other requirements of modern life......and who knows, it might even result in you avoiding catching the virus.

It will certainly avoid you being short changed in Gama or anywhere else.
