Just been announced...Lock down extended until April 26th.. Dear All...My apologies...I jumped the gun..At Yesterdays meeting of the Spanish congress...a meeting held to confirm the continuation of the current lockdown extension...Senior Sanchez said "we may have to continue to April 26th"...My Spanish has let me down on this (and many other)occasions.

As This is Quesada Forum...and the title is Spain etc then its is here in Spain. Pedro Sanchez (PM) in his Statement today...The government assumes it will have to continue with the State of alarm until the 26th April. Ok not officially announced as such but with that statement I would think that an extension is on its way.

Hobknob, please could you give a link to a specific source where you read this or to a broadcast interview of the statement you say was made . This sounds highly improbable at this stage ( as Marcliff said, the 11 April extension has only jus been approved ) and all the major discussions I can find today on ( reliable) media relate to court complaints against officials allowing 8 March womens rally to go ahead when they allegedly knew the situation about coronavirus and also injunctions from regions trying to force better distribution of protective medical equipment to hospitals.

Lets not panic everyone just yet.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the lockdown isn't extended beyond April 11. That's hardly 2 weeks away and the current figures don't support any relaxation.
* Spain death toll surpasses China.
* 738 deaths in the past 24 hours.
* Numbers affected higher than Italy.
* 27000 being treated in hospital.
Surely there would need to be a significant improvement for any relaxation ?

From the BBC

Coronavirus: Deaths rise sharply in Spain while infection rate stabilises..

The latest figures raised hopes that the measures were beginning to take effect. Health emergency chief Fernando Simón said they showed a "clear stabilisation" and that it seemed they were "approaching the long-awaited peak".

Maybe there is light on the horizon..?

There’s always light on the horizon, the question is, how far away is it?

I can’t grasp what they’re measuring when they talk of ‘the peak!.

Is it infections? If we’re locked away, they'll surely drop
Is it deaths? They too will follow, at a later date, the infection trend.

So, where’s the peak?

And what then after both figures tumble? If the virus hasn’t been eradicated and we’re released from the present state, the whole sorry affair cycles again.

The current exercise is in place to manage hospital throughput and prevent the health system crashing. However, no State has admitted that these measures will be in place for some considerable time and will only end, when a vaccine is found and administered Worldwide.

Oh, and good luck with Easter, Trumpy boy
