Some places was advertising that they would be doing home deliveries from the 18th but this is now being stopped which is a good thing.

Ok, probably a stupid observation, but anyway.

If you get your food from a takeaway are you not running a much bigger risk of getting the infection. If just one of the staff in the kitchen area has it, and sneezes and coughs anywhere near any one of the containers that you'll be using, then the virus is all over it. Likewise the lid and the bag that the food comes in etc etc.

I think home cooked food, prepared and served on your own plates, is one way of cutting down on the risk of contamination. You cannot give yourself the virus. If you already have it, then you have it, But the more people who prepare and have contact with the food, that you're going to put into one of the three orifices that the disease can be delivered through, the more likely you are to catch it. There is no evidence of transmission through food. See here.https://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/news/coro ... sion-route

Shiva...Murt isn't saying there's an issue with the food...it's the packaging the food comes in.

There IS evidence of the virus remaining on surfaces for between 48 and 72 hours, so pizza boxes, containers, bags etc. could indeed hold the virus.

Same with supermarket items. Someone with Covid-19 walks into the supermarket...coughs over the tin of beans...next person picks up the tin.....

Here's a link to advice from the Food Safety authority in Ireland. There is always a risk anywhere from anything. But this is latest relevant advice I could find from a competent authority. You have to make your own mind up about levels of risk you find acceptable. https://www.fsai.ie/faq/coronavirus.html See link for full details, a screenshot below of dome of the advice.

We are asked to stop in to prevent the virus spreading..

The less people moving about the better for everyone..

Can people not live without a takeaway?

Can people not make chips anymore..?.. roast a chicken breast?.. bake a potato? fry rice?.. just for a week or two?

I just do not understand why anyone would buy a takeaway at this time..

We could make chips and roast chicken breast etc if it was possible to get any as the shelves have been emptied by the hoarders as soon as the stores open
