Telefonica/Movistar turns off ADSL next week.

Telefonica/Movistar turns off ADSL next week.

If you have phone or internet supplied by telefonica/movistar by old wiring like mine was, it will cease next week /April 19th)!
At present they are still installing fibre but it won't happen for another couple of months, so you stand to lose your phone/internet connection.
They haven't done anything to tell people this and when we asked at the movistar shop they said we wouldn't lose our connection, but took my name etc., then I got a call from them saying I would!
To keep my internet active, and with limited time to change, they put me on satellite instead, within 2 days, which took the tradesman 20 minutes.
So my internet is safe - and actually seems better & cheaper!

We were advised last November ADSL was ending but its been a right old saga since. Three visits from engineers only to be finally told not possible to have fibre here in Benimar.
Now they are attempting to install satellite this week...keep your fingers crossed!
Can I ask was it relatively simple to install and how much is it?
Thank you x

Satellite connection was free installation - I think/hope - and took 20 minutes :)

They'd made an appointment for 11am, phoned at 10 to say they'd be coming, but didn't get here till 1pm!
They say they are working hard to bring fibre, and it should be about 2 months.

WiMax then, not satellite.

You do of course require an external antenna be that a small dish or Yagi.

My friends in Benimar all have full fibre!

We have the same problem, Martin - I'm just annoyed that we weren't informed of this change and/or the dates? Thankfully, my hubby read an article in one of the free papers on Friday which alerted us to contact Movistar. Should have someone here any time now to change our router too!
Thank you for highlighting it on the forum too as not everyone reads the papers!
