A Fast.com test immediately prior to this post returned a miserable 4.5mb whilst Speedtest still correctly reports ~50mb

I rest my case!

Tell me about it .

I believed you when you said it, "inconsistency" referred to my rubbish results compared to your acuurate one.

BTW not the first time I've used Fast.com with similar junk results.

A more accurate and consistent way to measure download speed is to download a test file and time it.

If you keep a note of your time then if you suspect your speed might be below par then a repeat download should confirm it.

Like here for instance: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/download

As stated in my OP. I am getting inconsistent results.

I am contracted to 50 Mbs download with Telfy. which is what I achieved with Speedtest.net when Telfy was the selected server.
This is no longer the case - the Telfy server seems to have disappeared from sppeedtests !!

This whole speedtest scenario with Telfy seems complete nonsense - at least for me!

I've now tried Speedtest.Net on my android tablet and it consistently selects the Telfy server and gives me close on 50Mbs download.
But my main PC selects any server except Telfy! with a download of 30Mbs.
Both use the same Wifi connection.

I think I'll put it down to smoke and mirrors!
