Thinking of visiting/returning to UK? Don't bother!

If I was to say to you that the true number of cases in Spain is likely to be 10s of thousands more than reported, would you believe me?
Yes, the UK has high numbers and probably also has more than reported, but please don't tell me you believe Spain only has 2k a day cases because you would be incredibly wrong!
I go back to England on Sunday, not looking forward to it for many reasons including covid, but Spain is not perfect by any stretch with covid.
Infact, I've noticed a slight increase last couple of days using the week on week numbers.
So maybe, just maybe Spain is going up,i bloody hope not though!

There seems to be a few theories.
Vaccines waning and as the UK were first out of the block, it would hit us earlier.
I think i heard whilst yes they are rising ( which is not a surprise when infections do ) England is still below the EU Average, don't quote me on that.
Lets face it, this virus will do what it wants, Spain will have another tough time i have no doubt, again i hope not.

Like the original post, I too arrived in Spain to visit our holiday home in two years a week ago and I was stopped as I walked into Consum and was reminded to take my mask out of my pocket. When you come from England it is easy to forget, although my wife and I always wear our masks in public places in the U.K. although the vast majority do not.
Now the right wing of the Conservatory have taken control of the Health ministry, mandatory mask wearing will be one of the last things they will enforce. Their backers, including the owner of Wetherspoons will maintain the pressure sadly.

It can't all be down to masks, Sweden use masks less than the UK but rates are falling. I'm currently in Budapest and virtually nobody is using masks, not in shops nor public transport

And unfortunately in Scotland, where it is still complulsory to wear masks in public places deaths are also rising! This is not just about masks, that is I'm afraid too simplistic. There are a number of factors here such as an earlier vaxination programme in the UK, the need to be indoors more and the lack of accurate reporting in other countries. In my opinion, taking precautions where necessary in the UK you will be just as safe as anywhere else.

Anyway shap
just to confirm what you encountered
I was in one supermarket and i heard shouting so I turned round thinking there was a robbery in progress but it was an old fellow who had forgotten to mask up.
He was very apologetic to the staff.
On the flipside I have seen the sanitising of hands slip a fair bit.

When I was in Spain when entering Mercadona I inadvertently forgot to put on my mask from my pocket (mind full of other things) . I only had one step inside the door when the assistant on the till shouted 'STOP. MASCARILLA ?" Although momentarily embarrassed by my carelessness I fully applaud the young assistant for his action. This is how the Covid situation is being controlled in Spain and infections are so much less than the UK
Fast forward to my visit to Tesco's in UK. No social distancing measures whatsoever and maybe a quarter at most of a packed shop wearing masks.
Little wonder the numbers of infections, hospitalisations and deaths are increasing. Why can't our bungling government have the guts to make mask wearing mandatory in enclosed areas?
Then they have the gall to insist that vaccinated passengers from Spain where there are far fewer infections, have to pay and take a 2 day test. Grrrrr!!
You are quite right and I for one understand your annoyance but I for one will not be setting foot in the BREXIT ISLAND anytime soon safer in the EU.

What a stupid post !
Do you honestly believe that piece of rag you put across your face will stop you from getting COVID?. The fact is - it won’t, unless masks are the medically approved ones like those worn in hospitals, they are pointless..check the facts they are out there.
Maybe if UK we’re not so obsessed with testing, then it’s positive cases would be similar to other countries..

That "piece of rag" isn't & never has been to stop you getting Covid. It is to stop you from spreading the virus if you are carrying it, as many are & without symptoms.
I would say yours is a stupid post rather than shap's.
