Postby SueC » Wed Aug 19, 2020 8:37 am

Hi, i am new to the forum so forgive me if i am asking a question that has already been addressed over the last weeks.
We already have a permanent residence in Spain and are relocated to Quasada in October. Someone told me that
you do not have go to a solicitor to change your NIA for TIA, that this can be done locally at a cost of €12. Can anyone tell where i would go to arrange this. Many thanks.

It has been covered, just do a search on here and it will all come up. You have to fill in certain forms, pay money at the bank and go to Alicante with all the correct paperwork. If you already have your A4 green residencia or the newer small card there is no need to change it to the TIE

No. You only need to change it if you want to. Having the A4 green paper or the newer smaller card you will still have the same rights after Brexit but it's entirely up to you there is no legal requirement to change it.

No legal requirement YET but nobody knows if that will change or not in the future.

Ignoring irrational protests about fingerprinting I have yet to hear a single convincing argument for NOT switching to a TIE.

For us the reason we have taken the decision not to change is that the TIE is only issued for a maximum of 10 years and who knows what hoops we will have to jump through to obtain that renewal. Our residencia, green credit card sized, says permanente on it and so never needs renewing, unless or until the authorities decide otherwise.
I believe it is unlikely that the exchange will be made compulsory any time soon, as these same residencias are still being issued for all Spanish residents of European citizenship, French, German, Dutch etc.

BTW I am in favour of carrying an ID card with biometrics embedded and even DNA details should that ever be included, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.

There is no "local" place to get it done. You have to pay the €12 at a bank with a Form 720 and then take receipt for that and the completed EX23 form to the foreigners' office in Alicante. There is no extra charge at Alicante but it is an office especially set up to deal with Brits after Brexit.

Also note that, as you are changing address, you need to get an updated padron as the address will be different to the one on your registro.

All this has been explained in length on other threads since the beginning of July with all the procedures and requirements laid out. Some threads even tell you how to get to the office in Alicante and which door to use.
