Michael I so agree, both France and Germany are having bad rates of infection at the moment but it is OK Spain says they will be accepted. So don't anyone on here tell me that they aren't anti Brits because I won't believe you. This is payback time because we dared to move away from the stranglehold of the non elected bureaucracy who run the EU.

Spain cannot prevent fellow Europeans coming here as the EU has an open border policy by Law. Are feelings about them coming here at the moment any different, absolutely not.

Member states can and have recently closed borders for exceptional reasons.

Spain's ban on British citizens coming to Spain was set months ago when levels in the UK were rising. When the ban was set, a date for its relaxation was also set and that is due to expire soon.
It is NOT EU revenge it was the decision of one Country.
Why all this EU bashing?

Glassfull's points are very well made
" Spain's ban on British citizens coming to Spain was set months ago when levels in the UK were rising. When the ban was set, a date for its relaxation was also set and that is due to expire soon.
It is NOT EU revenge it was the decision of one Country.
Why all this EU bashing?"
Allowing absolutely no EU bashing, as nigelandkath had said "Spain cannot prevent fellow Europeans coming here as the EU has an open border policy by Law"
but therefore:
*If Spain's restriction date on UK visitors has passed,
*the UK continues with it successful vaccination programme and continues to have an improving Covid situation
*Spain continues to allow visitors from EU countries with high (possibly increasing) infection rates
there is surely, then, no problem with a UK visitor who abides with all of the Spanish rules and requirements being a worse infection risk than any other kind of visitor?

Just like UK, Spain publishes a list of which country's they allow visitors from. It's not a "EU getting back at the UK for leaving" thing at all, despite some trying to play the victim card.
There are only 6 countries in the entire world, outside the EU, who are allowed access to Spain without it being for residents or citizens or having an essential reason. There were 7 but Singapore has now been removed from the list. And even those countries allowed in, including from the EU, have to show a recent covid test. In the case of France those arriving overland as well.
Residents are allowed in because it's their main home. No country bans people from returning to their main home and that's the difference between residents and non-residents. Non-residents will have somewhere else to live.
So how is banning Americans, Canadians, Indians, Japanese etc being a way of getting back to UK for leaving the EU? And said by the same person who, just last month, called for the UK to ban all travel from the EU due to rising cases but who, back at the beginning of January when UK was registering tens of thousands of cases and up to a thousand deaths per day, was moaning about the fact they couldn't come to Spain.
And all those who enter Spain must abide by the rules in their own country. Like UK saying no, you can't leave the UK, France, Germany and Austria (among others) requiring their citizens to self isolate or quarantine for a week to two weeks on returning (except the Germans from the islands which was declared green by Germany but not the mainland).
The UK has the ban in place until May 17th, I think. Spain will review the countries allowed in at the end of April.
So, of course, it's simply the EU getting back at UK because they are special and should be treated differently to other countries (yeah! right!).
I hear Tesco has a sale on Sarsons vinegar to go with the chip on certain peoples' shoulders.

I love your posts Marcliff, they are always based on facts and you are so right in what you say. I think it has come as a bit of a shock to the folks in the UK that they don't have the freedoms they used to as far as far as the EU is concerned.
For those that think that UK citizens living here are now Brit bashing it is important to reflect on the fact that residents here have had to jump through many hoops just to be allowed to continue to live here, it has cost in time, effort and money to be able to legally remain living in our own homes maintaining our lives.
