The OP’s thirst, to be first with the news, has led her to be careless with the facts

I’m the poster and that’s what the message from the BBC said on my phone last night. I know how frightened people are about having all of the right tests before coming home so posted the message.
I know no more than what I read. Sorry if it’s incorrect but think you will find that it is correct. It may not be implemented for a few days though. We will see.

It's pointless recommending it, who in their right mind will pay 100+ euros when they can pay 40?

We’d all be happy to pay for the PCR test if they dropped the post arrival test. Same cost. ( Antigen €40 plus £88 NHS test)

That’s the bulletin I received last night.
We can’t blame the government as they are trying to permit travel and this is the safest way to do it. The PCR test is pretty accurate. It’s for our own safety.
I noticed that the cost of the PCR test at the hospital Quiron was reduced to around a €100 The law of supply and demand! If more and more people require a PCR test and a clinic or two offer the service at a lesser cost, the others will lower their prices to get the business.
There’s nothing we can do about it other than staying at home!

Agree with all the other sentiments expressed - it is Advisory not Mandatory.
Listening to Grant Shapps on Radio 4 this morning he seemed to be saying that by taking a PCR test it gives both the Spanish Government and the UK Government more indepth knowledge of what particular variants are circulating (amongst tourists??) and you should try and support that genomic sequencing effort.
Not sure how many will see that as really neccessary if we are all having to take a PCR test on our return and surely the UK government can share that data with their Spanish counterparts.

Tory BS. For that to happen, every clinic would need to ask everyone their Nationality, where they are traveling too, record it and report it.

Remember, most people have a negative test and only those with a positive test would be recorded and details of the variant shared. Don’t be such a doubting Thomas. The scientists are doing their best for us.
