Turtles on the beach

A reminder that if you see any sea turtles on the beach, keep away from them and phone 112 immediately

Is this because they are protected? Or dangerous?
I can't imagine it being the latter but I'm curious.

If the turtles feel that they can’t return to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs then they may never reproduce.
But turtles can give you a very nasty bite. Their jaws are powerful and they could take your finger off.
