These are the figures for Scotland. England is not a lot different.
According to the last three published PHS Covid-19 Statistical Reports, the most recent of which was published January 12th 2022, over a period of 7 weeks the vaccinated population have accounted for 82% of Covid-19 cases, 74% of Covid-19 hospitalisations, and 82% of Covid-19 deaths. As of December 6, 2021, 72.6% of the Scottish population was vaccinated.
These numbers infer no protective effect against hospitalisation and a slightly negative effectiveness for vaccination in terms of infection and death.
Time to end any differentiation based on vaccination status. On the basis of these figures there is absolutely no statistical or scientific basis for sacking 100,000 NHS workers, who have worked diligently through the Pandemic caring for us and our relatives with inadequate PPE for most of that time to protect them. They risked their lives for us. You can't just clap them on a Thursday night, and then fire them while trying to claim some non existent moral high ground.

Steve wilkins wrote:The vaccine doesn't work very well. If it did, the vaccinated would not still get covid which they clearly do, and they wouldn't be worried about the unvaccinated so much. Not that there is any proof at all that unvaccinated pose a contagion risk anyway and that seems its just scaremongering. I don't believe the reports that 90% in hospital are unvaccinated either as the figures don't add up. So 90% of the nation is vaccinated but it's 90% of the remainding 10% that are filling the hospitals? Sorry i find that hard to believe.
In the UK it's just over 60% who have had the booster (3rd vaccination).
So let's say those eligible for a booster dose = 40 million, then there are around 16 million at risk. But you do your own maths.

Actually, all my children and their other halves in UK have had their boosters all in their 40s.

Guess what.....the NHS has been getting a whopping £423 million extra every week.
So he was right on that.
If true, maybe it’s because they’re getting extra funding to cope with Covid and not because of any other reason?

Yes the extra Covid funding is reported to be £1.14 billion for 2020/21.....So that's £22 million per week.
That still leaves £401 million non Covid related funding which is way in excess of that on the side of the bus.
Nice to know something went right with Brexit.

Really? £1.14 billion? The cost of vaccines alone cost UK 12.1 billion. That doesn't include the 15 quid a dose they paid GPs. Then, of course, the billions on PPE, they budgeted for 37 billion for the test and trace system (they didn't pay all that last year but it did come to a whopping 13.5 billion).
If you'd care to look at the King's Fund, who are responsible for accountability in the NHS, you'll find that £63.4 billion was spent by UK on covid related matters which included paying private hospitals to relieve the pressure on UK hospitals.
A quick back of fag packet calculation shows the money spent on NHS matters less covid was actually 1.7 billion less than 2018/19.
Core funding will rise around 10 billion for 2022/2023 but covid spending will be reduced from 63.4 billion to 22.4 billion which is where the savings will be and, of course, the 3% pay rise to doctors and 2% to nurse coming in this year will eat up a lot of that considering the NHS is one of the highest employers in the world.
I have every respect for the NHS and believe the majority do a good job under difficult conditions but let's not exaggerate (or under exaggerate) how much it costs us.
£212 billion in 2020/21.

The pictures of Boris and the red bus were taken in 2016. According to the Kings fund, in 2016-17 the Health & Social Care budget was £137.4 billion. In 2021-22 it had risen to £159 billion. Therefore the increase to the NHS before any Covid related extra funding is added is £415 million every week.

I’m absolutely flabbergasted to read that you’d prefer to rely on immunity that has FAILED many, many people since life started rather than be vaccinated.
I respect your right to refuse inoculation but I fail to understand your reasoning.
Millions of human beings died of different plagues over the years. This is fact. Where was their immunity then? We are living in a different world now. We have computers that do the work of many people, we have communication where we can share knowledge instantly, we don’t need to rely on a lone scientist sitting doing experiments in a cold laboratory anymore. Our methods of research have changed beyond recognition. When you consider hat people years ago used to work late to balance the books in are use your bum banks and accountancy offices. No need to do that in today’s world, the computer morning does it for them. Scientists are equipped with space age facilities, equipment and computers hence the reason we were all jumping for joy when the news that a vaccination was almost ready to use on us. Yes, you’re no fool. You’re not going to fall for that but you are now a very vulnerable person. You’ve hopefully managed to avoid infection and you’ve convinced yourself that you are strong and healthy and will beat it. I sincerely hope this is the case. My daughter has a woman who comes to her home every week who is a serious antivaxer. I enquired about her a few weeks ago and yes, she’d caught it snd was quite ill but refuses to discuss it now. No idea if she’s changed her tune about vaccinations or not.. I wonder if she’ll choose to keep going now that she has had it but we now know that like any other types of flu, people can get it many times.
Nobody wants to become ill. Life changes when we become ill and with Covid it has the ability to destroy lives. Don’t take any chances I implore upon you. Get your vaccinations as soon as you can. Life is tough enough at the best of times. Join the rest of us and keep safe and well.
My final comment. Pneumonia is treated today by taking an antibiotic. My grandfather got it in 1920 aged 40 and died within a few days. Prince Albert was the same. Thankfully, this rarely happens in today’s world. Do you think my grandfather or Prince Albert would have refused a new drug called PENICILLIN if they’d had it back then? They’d have taken it and probably lived to be old men. What more can I say to you to make you reconsider? Forewarned is for armed. Get your arm out and get safe…….please.
