Well I was dragged back to Somerset kicking and screaming last week to do the family Easter visits.
We are in BBQ and sun cream mode here. Suddenly Brexit seems a distant nightmare !
Cheers to the Mrs. ;)

You're confusing two entirely different and separate things Jan.

Driving through water deep enough to immerse or partly immerse the brakes can severely degrade their performance but that is nothing to do with aquaplaning.

Aquaplaning is where the amount of water on the road becomes too much for the tyre treads to cut through and disperse causing them to ride on top of it potentially resulting in a loss of control of the car.

Fundamentally it comes as a result of driving too fast for the road conditions but is also a function of the state of the tyres, I.E. the less tread the more susceptible they will be to aquaplaning.

It's a particularly dangerous phenomenon because even on apparently flat roads you cannot know the actual depth of any water ahead of you and if driving incautiously just a couple of mm can be enough to make the difference between aquaplaning and not.

The camber on the road can be dangerous too as many a driver has discovered when their nearside front wheel has hit deeper water causing their car to suddenly veer to the right, sometimes with sufficient violence to rip the wheel from their hands which can easily result in a roll!

It's true that gently applying the brakes when you are out of the water can help to restore brake efficiency and is not necessarily a bad thing to do however in the sort of conditions we are currently experiencing it's something I would urge caution in doing as it could provoke a skid.

If you drive at an appropriate speed and keep your distance then even wet from immersion the brakes should still work perfectly well enough for you to be able to stop safely.

The golf course is not as bad as the flooding there last time in 2016 https://www.talkquesada.com/quesada-general-discussion-f9/monday-still-flooding-t16399.html?hilit=flooding
Although it has been steadily raining for a longer period, the rate has generally been less.
The golf course is flooded as the river is very high, so they can't let it drain off.
Although they are worried around Orihuela, the river has not burst it banks there yet.
Here's a couple of photos I took on Sunday when the rain ceased long enough to hold the 'resurrection encounter' at midday.

Martin, what surprised us all I think, was the amount of rain that fell yesterday after you took those photos
We had more rain in the hours from around 2pm until 8 pm than we did on Friday night etc, here in Rojales
We had more water in our house (we have a central courtyard with a drain that can’t cope) than we did Friday night, coming through the doors so spent hours trying to keep it contained
I think they were lucky to have those few hours Sunday morning

we are in Orihuela and had a very lucky escape on Saturday with our decking took up two planks only to find 17.5 inches of dirty water. I think we dodged a bullet!!

Torrevieja does seem to get hit quite badly when these things happen. It was similar a couple of years back, although maybe slightly earlier in the year.

Where I am in El Moncayo, and the Lemon Tree Road area, through El Raso and Pueblo Bravo seem to have not been affected much at all.

Much rain, but no flooding.

Looking much better today though...the shorts and t-shirts were back out on Guardamar prom a couple of hours ago!!!
