Water Pressure Help
Water Pressure Help
by Lockey57 » Tue Apr 16, 2019 2:00 pm
Can anyone help me me with my water pressure, is it normal for the shower to go to a trickle if the toilet is flushed? I have cleaned all the filters on the taps but nothing seems to make any difference, I have spoken to the president on our community and he says that the valves are open to the max, any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you have low pressure then yes flushing a toilet or opening a second tap will make a big difference and typically the further away from the incoming supply the greater the effect.
Showers are often the worst affected as you're already relying on poor pressure to force the water up a relatively small diameter pipe and out of the shower head so other outlets which offer less resistance will steal the flow.
Best people to ask are your neighbours though as generally they will be facing similar problems.

Hi if you can try restricting the flow to all your other supplies and leave the shower fully open see if this helps

Double check that you do not have a leak some where, underground? Turn off everything and check the meter is not turning. Regards, Jcee

Assuming you also checked and possibly descaled your showerhead, as said above, ask neighbours if their pressure is also low to make sure your place isn't a one off.
Another thing to try is, unlike the UK, bathrooms and kitchens in Spain tend to have isolating valves in each room with water (two usually silver blobs on the wall somewhere) unscrew them to reveal the valve underneath and use a spanner to see if they are fully open. . . .
The pressure at my place is so strong that if I fully turn on say, the tap for my garden hose, it blows the connector off . . . .

Thanks for all the advise I moved to this house last July and only moved around the corner onto a new community complex, the last place I had also had fantastic pressure. I have asked the neighbours about their pressure and they say they are happy with it, we have two toilets and two showers but it would be impossible for two people to have a shower at the same time. I would love someone to be able to come round and see if they feel there is a problem.

Please let us know if you find any trouble with the Water Pressure as we couldn't run a Shower upstairs and use the kitchen sink downstairs as the water went cold. Also wouldn't have dreamt of running two showers at a time. Waste of time.

Many Spanish properties have hot and cold stop cocks in each bathroom, often mounted on the wall. Ifthese aren’t fully open then water flow within the bathroom will be restricted.
It’s possible that the mechanism within the stop cocks is broken. I had this problem once when I closed them to do some work, then when I turned them on again one just kept turning but the water didn’t come back on again. A new body for the mechanism soon fixed the problem.
If pressure in the whole of the house is low then check the stop cocks near the water meter. There’s usually one either side of the meter and these should be fully on, otherwise you won’t be getting full pressure.
Pete.

The last resort is to fit a pressure shower boost pump in the cold water line, that will boost your pressure to something respectable, but you'll probably need a plumber to fit it, its not a beginners job.
This sort of thing ,but youd only need a single gang

It might be worth checking that your stopcock is fully open.
