The problem turning off in the apartment means you’ve probably got 30 mitres of supply pipe live from the meter, and that’s where 1,000s of € bills come from

30meters of water that's 30, 000 liters, that's a big supply pipe, ,surely not
From the big mains pipe on the road, then into in the street is a 4inch pipe, to the domestic supply i , from the 4inch supply is a smaller pipe to feed your property via a meter, if your meter is in a meter room along with everyone else's,
And you live in a block of dwellings , at the furthest one from the meter room that's bad luck regarding a leak,
It is illegal for a member of the public to turn water off from the mains, to feed any buildings without prior notice, from your meter to your property yes, as it is your responsibility,
From the street to your meter no.

This is something I’ve never even thought of doing. I turn off the gas and central heating combi boiler, the fridge freezer in the outside utility along with the dryer and washer, the kitchen fridge and the freezer and dishwasher, the oven, the tv, the clocks and unplug everything except the internet, alarm, cameras and pool filtering system.
It simply never occurred to me to turn the water off. Next time we are there before we go, I’ll be doing that.
Good post. Thanks for highlighting the subject.
