If you went to Alicante by Coach or Car then take them by Train from Catral San Isidro. Free Parking. Very cheap tickets. You need a Map so find the Information Centre. There is a Hogueras Museum which is very amusing.
The Train also goes to Elche and Elche Park. Never been on the train to Elche, always drove.
If I had visitors for 12 Days it would be 1 day Morning out. Lunch at home. Salad, meats, cheeses, crusty bread etc. Then down time for a couple of hours or so before getting ready to go for evening meal. Day 2 A whole day trip including Meal at lunchtime then snack when home. Perhaps going out later for a walk or Drive for an Ice Cream, Drink or Coffee to Guardamar or Torrevieja.
None of our visitors were interested in the Pool or the Beach. I enjoyed it but was shattered afterwards. It makes a Break from ordinary like.

Take them up to San Pascual sanctuario in Orito, Monforte del Cid and then on to the Gaudi style church in Novelda, lovely views from both and you can have lunch next to the Novelda church, go midweek Orito is a really spiritual spot where you can sit and collect your thoughts, a lovely spot. The Novelda church is called Santuario de Santa María Magdalena you can sit and listen to the marble pipe organ playing.

How about the spas _ outdoor pools with flumes etc plus all the massage stuff too - at Archena or Fortuna? I'd def go with the Cartagena suggestion too and when its siesta time go to the beach around to the left of the bay. You can go in the sea and get drinks, snacks etc.

Failing all that let them hire a car or bikes and sort themselves out! If any of my lot came out and wanted to be on the go like that they wouldn't be coming again. How you have done it all and in the most humid Aug ever I don't know! Bet you are ready to throw them out at the airport!!

I was going to mention Rio Safari and Cartagena, but others have already done so. The church at Novelda is another good idea too, maybe stopping for lunch at Hondón de los Frailes. There are vineyards in the Hondon valley and I would imagine some of them are open to visitors.

The cave houses in Rojales are an interesting way to spend an hour or so, if only for their curiosity value.
