Windscreen damage repair advice

Windscreen damage repair advice

Postby prefect » Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:01 am

Yesterday my car windscreen was hit by a stone from a passing vehicle and sustained a small but deep hole directly in my line of vision.
Could anyone recommend a firm to inspect the damage before I contact my insurance company

I had the same thing happen to me a couple of months ago. I went to car glass in Torrevieja, as they were the official glass repair service for my insurance company. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Car ... -0.6790278

Check out your insurance documents, they may include an official repairer for you.

All I had to do was make an appointment, complete a few forms, wait 40 minutes and left with a new windscreen, nothing to pay.

If the damage is in your direct line of vision then it can not be repaired you will require a new windscreen best see your insurance company it will not affect your NCB

Usually replacing windshield is included in your insurance with no deductible. I would check with them first before anything. Just because you report it does not mean you have to use them if it is not included. Then you can check locally. As previously mentioned Carglass is very good and they will also help you with any insurance claims if necessary. They are an international company and exist in many European countries. Same thing happened to me a few years back and had it replaced for free by my insurance company. Sure, most companies differs but I know for sure Volvo does it for free. Basically, they can’t insure a car with cracked windshield. That would be illegal for them as it is no longer safe to drive.

I had a similar thing happen to me last year went onto my insurance agency in Calle Los Arcos they phoned the glass company who then came to my house & examined the windscreen but even although it was in my line of vision it was repairable & was done on the spot & you cant see or notice anything now as its like new. No charges at all. So would recomend it to anyone.

Cheers Doug.

As a footnote. We had a van with tinted glass in the rear doors and the insurance only covered clear glass replacement when one of them got damaged. As tinted glass is common now in new cars it's something to check on your glass coverage.
