La Amsteleria Gone

Postby marcliff » Sat Feb 08, 2014 8:11 pm

La Amsteleria in the main street has gone. Now the Don Carlos (another one) with Carlsberg signs up. All the front has changed.
Used to quite enjoy the atmosphere in there so hope it doesn't change too much.

Yes, it's now called Don Carlos. Big orange sign has gone and replaced with a black one. Didn't go inside as loads of workmen were there.

I am amazed that Amsteleria has closed down - It's been there a many years. However, having the De Bassus Bavarian place next door couldn't have done it much good.

It always seems strange in Spain that a bar, restaurant or supermarket can suddenly spring up right next door to another similar outlet. If the planning department doesn't think about it, surely the owners of the places should realise that it will take trade away from one or even both of them and can't be a good business decision. Healthy competition is a good thing but in Spain it's bordering on madness!

So it looks like Old Don Carlos in Quesada has opened another bar a few doors up - Wonder if they are closing the other one because it seems strange to have two of the same bars when the old one is massive and is never full to capacity.

Interesting!

We have been in since re-opening and the staff and atmosphere are the same as before, just new tables and chairs. :D

The Amsteleria was always owned by the same owners as Don Carlos.
