Las Espaldas restaurant beneath The Banana Tree - Quesada
by Victor » Sat Nov 01, 2014 5:20 pm
[Last night we decided to try out Las Espaldas restaurant beneath The Banana Tree in main street Quesada. It serves meat cooked on the grill or BBQ. We opted for the buffet menu. It was excellent, food was brought to our table. We started with bread, dips and salad. Then rice and chips to accompany all the different meats and fish. Each portion was small but if we liked it we asked for more. The service was speedy with no delays. The price per person was 12.90€. I think it is cheaper during the week. The sad part was that we were the only 3 people in the restaurant. Some folk looked in but didn't stay. Definitely we would return but how long can they stay open with few customers coming in!

I often pass the 'Las Espaldas restaurant' but was never tempted due to the drab exterior decor and broken lanterns at the entrance.Your description of your experience in this restaurant sounds good Victor but I feel if this restaurant is to make it they serious need to reconsider employing a proper restaurant designer............shame.

Don't you just hate it when that's the case? I've chastised many restaurants for adding IVA to the bill when they've not mentioned it in the menu and to have IVA added to their already high drinks prices too is unacceptable. We don't return & we certainly tell friends about our experiences. We were eating at a seafront restaurant at La Mata a few days ago. Everything was really good by the way. However they did add 10% IVA on it all plus they even charged 30c for the tiniest pot jug of boiling water when I ordered an Americano with a jug of hot water. Now that's wrong!

Just checked the bill Gin was €4. Wine € 2 per glass beers € 3. IVA included. Perhaps I'm comparing prices to UK but we thought it was reasonable

I've also been to this restaurant a few times now and think it's excellent value for money, but don't have a big lunch as they keep coming round with more and more meat until you're stuffed! Good friendly service too, Spanish owners so great for practising your Spanish! Seem a real shame that it doesn't get the numbers in there, as it's lovely inside as well, very rustic with brick walls and lots of woodwork. Drinks no more expensive than anywhere else. Based on the Brazilian style restaurants where different cuts of meat are brought to your table at regular internals, so food is always piping hot which is also a plus point! Give it a try!!
