Yes Jan. When you go into La Mata, first roundabout into the old town, at the T junction turn right then as you follow the one way system to the large carpark at the Torre La Mata end. Walk onto the boardwalk, turn left and there's 2 or 3 different cafes and bars that do Tapas and a drink for 1.80. Have 1 (or 2) on me.

La Figuera
On recommendation we went to the La Figuera traditional Spanish Restaurant in Quesada town, in the little side street opposite the corner Tobacco shop. We just had the Tapas on this occasion but they were very nice and the owner & staff were friendly & helpful. They are all Spanish, so a smattering of Spanish is helpful and appreciated, even though they do speak & understand a little English. They appear to pride themselves on their traditional home-style cooked food (also available to take away) and the menu looks basic but good & priced reasonably. There is also a daily set menu, starter/main course/dessert/ Drink for 7.50 euro.

As its Easter, was the menu heavily laden with Buggs Bunny and his friends?

Huge menu del dia served all day (although its not necessarily all available at all times) written in English, French, German, and strangely, Spanish. Alioli & pan to start, very generous first and second courses, followed by postres or coffee, accompanied by 1/2 litre of wine each and water €8.50 per head. Try the "Meat Soup" for a starter if you have a good appetite. On top of all that, the chef/owner comes round and presents you with the odd bit of food for you to try "gratis". Excellent value and atmosphere. Gets VERY busy with almost totally, very noisy Spanish after about 9:00 p.m.
Enjoyed a meal in "Jaen's" last night with friends, thanks Ozzy. Good food & drink as described above and only 9 euro a head, great value!
I recognised the barrel of wine, on the table in Jaen's, from your photo Glyn P...you didn't drink it all, there was still some left for us

Jaen's (not Jeans!) in Guardamar is a definite 'experience'....and one that we really enjoyed. The decor isn't much(!) but the food is good, and comes in HUGE quantities!
I would not go there again in a cold spell, as it was freezing in there, and we(a big group) had to go to another bar for coffee(and brandy!), to thaw-out.
(At the 2nd place, whose name I missed, they brought-out heaters for us!)
