I guess you want solar thermal for hot water. Have you considered a heat pump to provide heat in winter and water. Solar thermal could be linked in with this if you think you need it or even solar photovoltaic to power an immersion heater. Lots of options really which I'm going to install myself this year

Hi you don't need a heat pump unless you want to heat your house/pool with it a correctly sized and installed solar thermal system with emersion back up will provide all the hot water you need.

Wasn't sure what the OP wanted to use solar for. I want to heat water, house and pool and I'm looking at all my options. Agree solar thermal would provide most people's needs FOC with a correctly siized system. My problem is I don't live here full time and would need to dump excess heat to the pool when I'm not here.

Hi This was my business in the UK and every situation is different and also depends on budget at the time but can be done, I would be happy to have a chat about the pros and cons when you are over. If you can dump excess into the pool a solar thermal under floor heating system would be great.

Hi Brian if you are considering just hot water with divert to pool you are better of with a thermal store rather than standard cylinder, Gledhill in UK do these difference is that you heat the store to 90 degrees and have a thermostatic valve fed with water from the store and mains water regulated to the temperature you require I will talk to you about I when you come over you will also need a heat exchanger for the pool, you will need someone who knows exactly what they are doing to get it correct. I will se if I can find anyone who can supply that system locally as well.

Hey rob. I am looking around the forums to see how people deal with heating, water and cooling along with pool heat. I'm still working in the UK in renewables but due to my health will be living permeantly soon in Spain!
I'm off back to UK tomorrow but love to have a chat to see what works when I'm back in a few weeks.
I am a freelance assessor for registration bodies ATM working with most renewables, gas and electrical.
I have just starting thinking about designing a scheme for my house here in Spain.
I'm not keen on ripping my floors out but agree an overlay floor system could be a good solution for me with a reversible heat pump.
