Re-locating our washing machine

Postby Elpando » Thu Apr 01, 2021 3:57 am

Plumbing advice needed please guys.
I would like to move our washing machine out of our kitchen and into a new utility space approximately 4 feet away on the other side of the adjacent wall.
The utility room floor is 18 inches (450mm) lower than the kitchen floor.
My questions are-
1... Can I just extend the existing plastic horizontal drainpipe that runs behind my kitchen units, through the wall and refit the P-Trap bend and vertical standpipe to the end of it?
2... Or will I need to have a different height standpipe because the washing machine will be 18 inches lower than before?
3... Or what do I need to do to install it to the correct plumbing specification if my initial thoughts were wrong?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi
Waste water from washing machine is pumped out and not reliant on gravity so no problem....carry on with your plan

If the machine is going to be 18 inches lower than it was using the drain at same original height, then the water will have to travel further up to flow out. End result more back flow of water left in the washing machine means clothes may end up being left in some of the mucky water, means that the clean rinse water will mix with that and, then that in turn will not be able to completely got rid of. End result clothes remain wetter in partly mucky water at the end of the cycle. So, u will need to lower the vertical waste pipe down to the level of the horizontal waste pipe.

I did actually consider that idea but with it being a washing machine and the possible movement that sometimes happens with unbalanced loads etc, I was kinda hoping keep it firmly on the solid floor as a first choice. Cheers though.
